Default Net Neutrality

Is anyone in here paying attention to this issue? From what I'm reading, we're looking a first time wave of regulation over the internet. Where's Press Coverage when you need him.

Perhaps it is your sources, but find this covered by both sides of the aisle.. each of which has a partisan view, difficult to find a middle of the road article that does not intend to inflame..

This is one side, and has little to do with censorship..

Quote:
Net Neutrality is the guiding principle that preserves the free and open Internet.

Net Neutrality means that Internet service providers may not discriminate between different kinds of content and applications online. It guarantees a level playing field for all Web sites and Internet technologies.

Net Neutrality is the reason the Internet has driven economic innovation, democratic participation and free speech online. It protects the consumer's right to use any equipment, content, application or service without interference from the network provider. With Net Neutrality, the network's only job is to move data -- not to choose which data to privilege with higher quality service.

I think we will see the end of what I've heard dubbed the "Will West" days of the Internet coming to an end. Data caps, restrictions, taxes, they're all coming. And they will be something backed by both sides of the aisle.

Nothing is forever there is to much freedom on the Internet the filthy politicians and lawmakers can't have that, next it will be Talk Radio.

Never let a politician stand before you and give one of their "Bull***** Freedom Speeches" the days of "Freedom" that the phony American Politician always gushes and blathers about is now nothing but a bunch of *****.

America very slowly is turning into a Socialist Communist Third World F-cking Dump.

Land Of The Free
And Home Of He Brave
Bull*****.

The time to load your guns is right around the corner, those farmers in Lexington and Concord knew how to handle these things.

The people in So Central LA knew what to do when they wanted the Cops put in jail for slapping Rodney King around, they almost burned the whole god damn city down.

Load Your Gun If You Don't Have One Go Down To Your Local School Yard And Buy One

We've had a few threads on net neutrality and it's something I've been following for a few years now. Two of the main motivators to oppose net neutrality are hollywood and the big telecommunications corporations (Verizon, AT&T, etc). Hollywood wants to be able to track the content type of the traffic to prevent (even legal) delivery of music and movies online, which TCP/IP and HTTP don't provide for - the protocols are agnostic with respect to content type. The big ISPs want to double dip based on usage - the goal is to charge google, netflix, amazon, etc. more money to provide "preferred" service, which is essentially a mafia strongarm tactic that exploits their position as middlemen. Your internet bill could wind up looking a lot like your cable bill. Any net neutrality bill would essentially kill both of these initiatives and would be a big win for consumers and internet users alike.

What's anything I typed have to do with "your (my) sources", or with partisanship? Is there anything that you type that doesn't first include either of those two things? Thanks for the informative post.

You asked where was the press coverage when you need them??? and I pointed out that it exists on both sides of the aisle, and due to bias it it difficult to comprehend the actual intent of this bill.... capiche????

If you find that to be a personal dig.. so be it, it was not the intent.

This is more of what I was seeking. Press Coverage was big on net neutrality. My issue in following this, is that there really isn't a "side" to align yourself with, at least from a political perspective, because to me each side is up to some degree of no good. It's why I'm of the opinion that I want no changes at all. Where I'm ignorant, is with the specific changes, rules, or regulations the different parties seek. What scares me most, is that once a government, or global entity begins to apply regulation to a field or service, it never stops. One "common good" control turns into an 1,100 page bill that serves everyone's best interests except the people's. It's why I'm curious to see what everyone's perspective, or knowledge is on this. I don't think the net is political. Or at least it shouldn't be.
