Then the federal income tax rates could be lowered.

Isn't this what the conservatives want? Lower taxes and people to be responsible for their actions?

The groceries will simply pass the costs on to the customer. So QuiCon can buy as much soda as he'd like, just as much as he's willing to pay.

San Francisco's leading the way again...
I think most conservatives would support a type of consumption tax, or national sales tax, but would oppose taxing Twinkies & donuts like proposed. The problem with taxing individual items like this is that the tax does nothing to lower income taxes. The proposed plans are an additional duty to what we already pay at gunpoint, in order to fund another special interest. I'd be all for a consuption, or national sales tax, were it to eliminate the income tax, but I oppose what SF is trying to do.

I like Cognac myself.

My dad likes this yellow liqueur called Galliano. I remember as a kid I used to pester him to let me have some. Being the horrible father he was, he always let me have a sip

The only problem was he liked it on the rocks but I preferred it neat.

Sometimes I have a beer instead of coffee first thing in the morning on weekends.

It truly is excellent stuff. Before i die, I want to try Louis XIII. I could afford to try it now, but as a man of principle, it's hard for me to justify paying that kind of coin for booze.

I drink Remy VSOP, usually, which isn't luxury but is still quite good. My limited experience with high end cognac is that it's not that much better than the Remy, but with Armagnac I have found that you have to spend at least $50 for a bottle of something worthwhile. Otherwise, it tastes no better than brandy.

much like the transfat rant, Star Wars Geek will be damned if his right to gluttony and unhealthy food choices is infringed upon.... it's a pasty righty's God-given liberty!!!

as a side note, how is taxing something in fact forbidding you from something? ... oh the drama
