Social security is a giveaway?

As people live longer and collect longer, that's what it is because many people collect far more than they put in - which is why it's not sustainable. The government should not be in the retirement business, should cut SS taxes (phased in) by about 75% and use the remaining 25% to support truly indigent old people instead of a crappy government retirement system.

But regardless of that, if you're worried about government obligations talk to FDR, not GWB.

No!
That's called censorship.
No one says you have to allow children to use the internet whenever they want to. It's called parenting and should be done only by grownups to children.

Do they collect more than they put in right now?

The system is inherrently flawed because it was set up on a mathematical scale that had something like 16 people paying in for every person collecting, and taking out. That ratio is no where near what they projected, and need.

I was thinking more of the al qaeda bomb factory and "how to build a roadside IED" crowd, the hate-speech websites, the kinds of misuse of a precious communication tool by those who subvert its purpose. Only a fool leaves a loaded gun sitting on the hood of his car while he goes inside a store to shop, yet the internet is being used right now to plot YOUR destruction, as well as the destruction of all of America. We're talking more than "parental controls" here; we're talking driving drunk on the interstate at 100 MPH. Lock-up time.

Over the course of the average lifetime, people will take out more than they put in. Obviously those who die early don't but the average person will, as life expectancy has risen. Again, that's the problem. The Iraq war is inconsequential (financially) compared to social security and medicare.

Well, I think BF says that as a matter of simple logic. The Iraq war, presumably, will eventually end, whereas Medicare & SS have existed longer, and will not. Therefore, the money pit that is the IW is the lesser financial obligation.

This is about social security.

I would like to read the link where it says we take out more money than we put it in.
