Patters is on a distinguished road
Default Do you think Ron Paul should try to start a third party?

Ron Paul is a true libertarian, and he's been raising a lot of money. His words are resonating with many people, and a lot of us can find things to agree with him on. For instance, I support his view of the Iraq War.

Now I think if he ran, he would hurt the Repubs more than the Dems, but maybe this is the year for something like that? It's not like the Repubs have a superb candidate, and it's not too often that a candidate like Ron Paul comes along who captures the imagination of a lot of people.

I also think there are several people in this forum who would likely vote for Ron Paul first, and the Democratic candidate second.

(By the way, I read Ron Paul says he's 99.9% ruled out running as a third-party candidate.)

.

Much as you'd like that, Patters, to ensure a Dem winner next year, I don't believe Paul is a traitor, or stupid. He has serious issues with the other Repub candidates, but he knows that electing a Dem would be far more dangerous than even Rudy Giuliani or Fred Thompson, not to mention the top dogs, Romney and Huckabee and McCain.

Keep dreamin'.

Its funny that he appeals to such disparate groups. Those on the left like his foreign policy stance, while on the right people agree with his domestic ideas. I do wonder who he would hurt more as a 3rd party candidate, maybe the 2 sides would end up evening out?

His ads mentioned the U.S. having 800 military bases around the world......I imagine he's going to reign in rome.

And cutting taxes across the spectrum....I need a tax cut, and the country needs to reign in the out of control debt.

I should vote for this guy....

Ron Paul should run as a third-party candidate. If only out of principle to show how rotten and corrupt the "two-party" system is.

Ross Perot. I think Slick Willy still sends him a christmas card.

he was on Scarborough this morning and Joe asked him about it...

while he closed his eyes and sighed, and dismissed having any plans to do so, and said it's 99.9% unlikely... he also didn't flat rule it out...

and Joe asked three times...

He'd croak republicans by a landslide. He is a republican by name, for one, and he's a libertarian at heart. Liberts tend to align more with the conservative view from what I've noticed. Libertarians believe in small government and despise entitlements. Paul has too major issued the left would support him for, and that's the legalization of drugs, and the Iraq war. Thing is, do you think the people on the left would vote for someone who wants to terminate the Department of Education? He'd hurt pubs more especially since so many traditional republicans feel disgusted with their party's loss of principles. IMO anyway.
