Geez, I didn't think there were people ignorant enough to actually believe that allegation. I guess you really can fool some of the people all of the time.
The cross-dressing thing, however, is a definite no. The story appears in Official and Confidential: The Secret Life of J. Edgar Hoover (1993), a gossipy biography by British journalist Anthony Summers, who has also written a JFK assassination conspiracy book. Summers says he got his info from Susan Rosenstiel, fourth wife of Lewis Rosenstiel, chairman of Schenley Industries, a liquor distiller with reputed mob connections.
Most researchers, including many hostile to Hoover, say this story is ludicrous. In a 1993 Esquire article, journalist Peter Maas wrote that Susan Rosenstiel, the sole source of the cross-dressing allegations, had "been trying to peddle this story for years," apparently because she believed Hoover had put FBI agents on her tail to help her husband during their divorce.

If you support gays in the military, I don't see why you shouldn't also support being allowed to cross dress in the military. I'm obviously not talking about when they're in uniform and on duty, I am talking about after hours. Aren't they both just lifestyle choices?

Re: Republicans Block "DADT"
So with all the inane back and forth/personal attacks has anyone stopped for a moment to digest the fact that the vote was blocked by Republicans because of their promise to block EVERYTHING until taxes/federal funding were taken care of? Anyone bother to look and see if there are 60 votes to repeal? I know Scott Brown is in favor of repeal, and there are a few other R Senators that are as well. I'm reading that the votes are there.
Its another case of Harry Reid being hamstrung by his own incompetence. A standalone DADT bill may be introduced soon.
GOP senators bar repeal of 'don't ask, don't tell,' hand Obama a defeat | National politic...
Come on people, maybe a little more constructive debate instead of 12 pages of nonsense? Although "wide stance wolfie" was pretty damn funny, sorry wolfpack, no offense intended here, but it did make me chuckle.
Reflexblue you must have missed the part where the tax hikes will be affecting small business owners that account for roughly $500 billion in revenue. Its not just Bill Gates and the Monopoly Man that are going to feel the pain.
Also, I support repeal of DADT, and hope it gets done soon. I support anyone brave enough to serve their country no matter their sexual preference.

Hey, Klinger did it in Korea and he didn't get kicked out of the military. Oh wait, I'm confusing reality and 70's TV shows again...

The "straight dope".. only a complete idiot or a complete dope would give a partisan blog credibiilty, but what do we expect.
This did not come out in 1993, it was known when he was director of the FBI.. this is not a recent story/allegation.
Keep defending the dead, that you know nothing about, except from partisan blogs.. you look like a complete idiot.
There is nothing wrong with what he did, what goes on behind closed doors is your own business...

As opposed to the idiot who believes everything he reads not based on evidence, but simply because he wants it to be true. BTW, straightdope.com, which I doubt you had even heard of prior to today, isn't even remotely anything like a partisan blog. It's more along the line of snopes.com, just going about dispelling urban legends.
Do you ever get tired of demonstrating how ignorant and clueless you are? You demonstrate that it really is possible to fool some people all the time.

Please provide one single shred of evidence to support this bogus claim. Or admit that, as usual, you're just making crap up and you have no idea what you are talking about.

No seriously, just out of curiousity, do you ever get tired of making a complete fool of yourself and showing the world how ignorant you are? But hey if you can't believe a dead mobster's fourth wife (the only so-called eyewitness to Hoover's alleged cross dressing) then who can you believe?
The secrets of J. Edgar Hoover - Dateline NBC - msnbc.com
The Hoover mystique made any detail about his life tantalizing, even after his death. Like the famous story that Hoover was a cross dresser. In a private life so unknown, a single rumor defines the man. In this case though, Hack claims, it's just wrong.
Hack: “It's so outrageous to even contemplate that. He certainly never did it.”

Re: Republicans Block "DADT"
Just as an update the Senate (including some pivotal republicans) is moving a standalone bill forward. Good for them.
"The Senate voted 63 to 33 today in favor of cloture on the bill to repeal the U.S. law banning openly gay people from serving in the military. Six Republicans voted for cloture: Scott Brown, Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe, Lisa Murkowski, George Voinovich, and Mark Kirk."
Senate Ignores Combat Troops' Concerns, Moves to Repeal 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' | The Weekly Standard
Please excuse crappiness of link and biased opinion therein, this was the first place I read about it and am too lazy to find a real news source to cite. I do not agree with the sentiment in the link, just using it to report the news.
