Most of us don't have enemies to the extent we actually want dead. Most of us wouldn't make the call if we were told it would kill people.

How is this any different than somebody setting up a hit? (if anything, it's worse, I'd say, as he was actually going through with it himself)
My issue is that you have a troubled 19 year old young man who got caught up in something terrible, and then may have been misguided by the FBI, perhaps hoping he would lead them to others. What would have happened if, when the FBI first got wind of this man's intent, arrested him -- he might have gotten some prison time, as well as some sort of help. After all, he's 19 and acted alone.

I don't know if he would have been given prison time, or if he even could have been charged.

It's unfortunate that he's only 19, but I don't think the FBI could or should have done anything different, and the guy had every opportunity to walk away.

So, you would support, for instance, the next time someone is seen as a threat to Obama, the Secret Service or the FBI contact that individual, offer to nurture his plans, and give him a (fake) gun so that s/he could attempt to kill the president? That way, they could arrest him and perhaps put him in jail for life. Do you think that's the way the police should operate? I'm not against the FBI operating in this way, since they were perhaps hoping this young man would lead them to others, but I think this young man needs help more than punishment, though some punishment may be in order as well.

I'm fine with that. If somebody is going to do more than talk a big game, I'd rather have them off the street.

btw, we have no way of knowing that this guy is just a "troubled" youth. Maybe he is, and with help he could have become a productive adult, but he also might just be a horrible person with no regard whatsoever for human life.

This is why I left this forum a few years back. A sick and twisted puke wants to blow up as many people as possible. He needs to be charged with 1000 counts of conspiracy to commit murder, 1000 counts of attempted murder and also for domestic terrorism. Period. Let him make little rocks out of big rocks in a nasty Federal Pen until he has a piece of granite placed over his head, then take his corpse and let it serve 1000 consecutive life sentences in Oregon prisons.

If that was a twisted punk from the Bronx who hates the Pats and their fans and planned to do the same thing at the Razor next weekend with you and your family in the stands your attitudes would not be this way.

No one is taking this case on its merits. Instead, everyone squares off on the same tired stale talking points and political stances, straw men and all. Just to argue. Just to prove who's political philosophy is superior. Knock it off and look at it for what it is. One sick prick who wants to dust off a whole bunch of people because he hates who they are and what they stand for. Like that Jests fan.

I have no idea where I got this attitude from.

And yet nothing from you on, say, the priest who tried to have his victim killed. Makes sense -- he's a white middle aged "Christian"
edit: its not just you. Its this particular forum, its in the framework here...

He's a Muslim therefore the Liberal will make all kinds of excuses for his desire to "kill" if he were a White Cop a Mormon or a Pedophile Priest they would be crucifying him.

While its true we are at war, a war that we did not start, and our enemy is bent on destroying our way of life, in this case, it appears that this guy was acting alone and was not part of a larger plot or network. Had he been, he would have been better supplied and trained.

There are people who make everything political -- it's because they're fools who are blindly loyal to their parties.

I just didn't think that was much of this thread.
