The defense contractor slogan of, "If we ain't stealing and lying, it ain't a good day" is never more evident than it is in Afghanistan. Unfortunately, our lawmakers are more focused on chump change beneficiaries of the federal dollar. Every day there is the mediotic whine about out of control spending by our government, however no one ever takes a look at defense spending and the always present fraud and overruns.
As a society we have become desensitized towards war, the associated violence, the effect on american families and all of this seems to be far removed from reality of the american people.
Haliburton built shoddy barracks in Iraq which resulted in soldiers dying after being electrocuted, Wackenhut had sex parties in the basement of the Afghan embassy, the taj mahal of embassies in Iraq was riddled with cost overruns and fraud, a plane load of AK-47's is missing along with a pallet of american 100 dollar bills.
No one cares, the beat goes on.. the defense contractors continue to rape and pillage our government, it will never change. 58% of all federal spending goes toward the military.. http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.p...t=va&aid=18852.. that is a lot of cash.
A McClatchy investigation has found that since January 2008, nearly $200 million in U.S. Army Corps of Engineers construction projects in Afghanistan have failed, face serious delays or resulted in subpar work. Poor recordkeeping made it impossible for McClatchy to determine the value of faulty projects before then. The military tries to recover part of a project's cost, but in many cases, the funds were already spent.
The investigation also found that:
•In a rush to award contracts to Afghan companies, the Corps accepts bids that don't cover the cost of a project, including the expense of security and a contractor's profit.
•Rather than scrap a project that's failing, the government sometimes rewrites the contract to require only the work that's been done and declares the effort a success. The process is called "de-scoping."
•At the same time, a vast majority of the companies that McClatchy found were doing shoddy work haven't been banned from getting new U.S. contracts, according to government records. U.S. taxpayer dollars also continue to go to firms whose true ownership is hard to determine, making it difficult to hold anyone accountable.
Despite these challenges, the Corps' work in Afghanistan is set to more than double in the fiscal year that began on Oct. 1, to nearly $2 billion from $900 million in the northern half of Afghanistan alone, according to a recent presentation by Army Col. Thomas Magness, the commander of the Afghanistan Engineer District-North.

58% if you ignore the other big ticket items. Honestly do you believe this crap you write ? Take out medicare, social security and all state taxes (your words, "every tax dollar") and your numbers are correct. Include "every tax dollar" and the real number is below $.20. Still too high but your argument is intellectually dishonest - surprise, surprise.

So I guess in your world it is ok to defraud and built crappy stuff, it happens all the time in the defense industry... and no one really cares.
Your argument is not backed up by anything with veracity, except what you think..
The right wing thought police have taught you well. They want you to believe that it is 20%, but in reality it is not..
Recently, Live Science published a chart showing that the US spends about one-fifth of its budget on the military. But this aggregate view hides how Congress prioritizes spending, when you consider what is discretionary and voted upon each year. A more salient view of these figures segregates 'discretionary' spending from 'mandatory' spending. During the severe economic downturn of the past two years, how has Congress prioritized spending?
When it comes to discretionary spending, Congress gives 58% to the military. Here are US budget charts for the years 2009 and 2010, according to the National Priorities Project (NPP):
Another source that claims 51%... and I thought illegal immigrants were the problem..

Lately I am outraged out ... kind of sad ... I'm like in a constant MEH stage.

I didn't say that. I think we should cut military spending. But don't - DON'T - present crap as truth. You said that the DoD is 58% of all of tax dollars and it's not even close to true. It's about 20% of Federal taxes, about 15% when you include state and local taxes. You can't separate discretionary from mandatory just because you don't want your social security cut. I want all spending chopped - even that which affects me or family members (like my dad's social security). You just want to cut what you don't like and make up numbers to suit you. Kind of like obama.
Wow... I've seen it all now. A conservative telling anyone ELSE not to "present crap as truth."
That was excellent.
He said that "the DOD takes $.58 of every tax dollar" but decided not to count social security and medicare and also not state and local taxes. It was as disingenuous as you can get regardless of how you feel about the actual fraud issue he started with.
BTW many people understand and waste and government spending go hand in hand.
