Default Judge: McDonald's must pay obese employee $17.5K

Judge: McDonald's must pay obese employee $17.5K

– Thu Oct 28, 4:57 pm ET

SAO PAULO – A Brazilian court ruled this week that McDonald's must pay a former franchise manager $17,500 because he gained 65 pounds (30 kilograms) while working there for a dozen years.

The 32-year-old man said he felt forced to sample the food each day to ensure quality standards remained high, because McDonald's hired "mystery clients" to randomly visit restaurants and report on the food, service and cleanliness.

The man also said the company offered free lunches to employees, adding to his caloric intake while on the job. His identity was not released.

It's only a matter of time before we see similiar rulings in the U.S. but probable from customers. Once the tobacco well has been rung dry, the lawyers will go after the fast food industry.

It's things like this that make me believe the world has gone crazy.

Fuggin' HELLO?? WT hell happened to peronal accountability? I recently lost a sh1tload of weight. I believe I put it on due to the hours and stress of my job. But do you think I blame my company? Of course not! It's still up to me what I do.

But I honestly do believe some here want to hold McDonalds accountable for this idiot's lack of self-control.

Couldn't they do a study to find out if all McDonalds franchise owners gain 65 lbs.? If not, then why was THIS guy different?

It's a damn shame RW!

Does anyone understand the Brazilian legal system??

Do not get how this applies to the US politics, unless we are now operating on what might happen to this country????

You're preaching to the choir, my friend! I think the newest Surgeon General warning for packs of cigarettes says "If you smoke these things, you're going to die, moron!"

But that doesn't stop all the lawsuits from winning.

So if I eat Taco Bell 3 or 4 nights a week and turn into a Chihuahua what's that worth?
