This has been brought up before, but will do so again.. here is a guy that many folks are getting behind.. Robert Healey, once a teacher, lawyer, school committee member and now a Chilean Wine Importer...
He wants to become Lt. Governor in RI, we elect one in case the gov. dies or something, and then abolish the office... saving RI about 1 million..
He accepts no donations, has no party affiliation.. at one time had his own called the "Cool Moose Party", but seems to have abandoned that endeavor..
Has done this before, but now is gaining traction...
But beyond the hirsute visage and gimmicky campaign paraphernalia (such as the Healey-for-Lieutenant-Governor “Nothing Never Felt So Good Condoms”), Healey is a lawyer, former teacher and entrepreneur whose Uruguayan land investments and former restaurant and liquor store have made him a millionaire.
A millionaire who drives a 1990-something red Ford Aspire he bought for $800. A vegetarian who heretically eschewed his Italian mother’s meatballs 41 years ago, but hardly a purist. As he says, “I smoke cigars, drink bourbon and eat fried foods with lots of salt.”
“When I’m home, I just usually work. I have one room that’s just empty. I like to sit in an empty room, sometimes reading, sometimes thinking, and writing.” One room has “boxes of ideas,” including for new businesses. His latest endeavor: importing cheese-melt plates from South America. (The end product is “like pizza without the crust.”)
Since 1986, the self-described fiscal conservative, social progressive and former Warren School Committee chairman has run three times for governor and three times for lieutenant governor. At the outset, he garnered nothing. But a recent Channel 10 (WJAR) poll suggests Healey’s ditch-the-office message has gained traction.
That Quest Research poll showed incumbent Roberts at 48 percent to Healey’s 43 percent, with 9 percent undecided.
