As much as you want to believe it, the WMD's we were sold were the ones that had to do with Nuclear, remember all the diatribe about Yellow Cake/Nigeria... that had nothing to do with gas.

You can rely on a blog.. or rely on what Shelton had to say..

Book Excerpt: Gen. Hugh Shelton's "Without Hesitation" - Book News - Entertainment - Military.com

Quote:
At some point Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz started pushing hard to attack Iraq. In their minds, this disaster could be turned around into an ideal opportunity to end the problems we were having with Saddam Hussein -- just blame the 911 attacks on him.

I did not agree with that because there was absolutely zero intelligence that would indicate that Iraq was involved in the 911 attack. Nor was there intell linking either Saddam or anyone else in Iraq to Usama bin Laden. Both Mueller and Tenet had just made it clear that Usama bin Laden and his organization were responsible for these terrorist acts. I wondered how Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz planned to blame this on Saddam since neither the FBI nor CIA had one shred of intell bringing Saddam into the picture.

Rumsfeld's didn't really seem to care what Tenet and Mueller had briefed because this was a golden opportunity to go after Saddam Hussein. In his mind everyone had to know that there were links between UBL, the al Qaida organization, and Saddam Hussein. We gotta get this guy was all we were hearing from Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz, referring to Saddam, not bin Laden. It was almost likeparanoia.

Colin and I lobbied just as strongly in the other direction, based on the intelligence provided by the FBI and CIA. It didn't stop.

Once we got back to the Pentagon, Wolfowitz was still insistent that we get our Iraq plans up to speed so that we were completely prepared to invade Iraq. We had General Tommy Franks dust off the Iraqi plans and start taking a look at what would make the most sense from a planning perspective if the decision was made to take out Saddam at this time. We had a number of preexisting plans surrounding various Iraq operations, and we wanted Tommy prepared to present them, if required.

The best story was the mobile WMD labs ... described as RV type vehicles that were hard to trace because they were always moving them. This story reached it's peak years ago. The blueprint before we went in was what needed to be discussed back then ... but it wasn't.

As much as Bush was bashed and his administration was bashed the media was as much to blame for this story as anyone. People seem to forget that the Bush people had the media wrapped around their finger ... kind of like Obama had recently.

The media perpetrated this story on the public and was as much or more to blame for all of this as Bush was. Old fashioned journalism giving way to sensationalism. If the media had done their job Bush would have been exposed before we went in ... but he wasn't.

The real WMD is the same as it was then ... the media is our modern day WMD.

*Sigh*

Israel.
Sharon.
West Bank.
Saddam supports and pays Palestinian terrorists to matyr themselves openly.
Sharon tells Bush if we can go into Afghanistan, He can go into Iraq.

The rest is history.

I am no fan of Bush. The guy was a Globalist and a puppet of his daddy's buddies. But this one gets a pass from me.

The media is an Orwellian nightmare. Both so-called "sides" of the political spectrum are using the media to further their religious grasp on power and reducing the actual input of the People. When newspapers were the only major form of periodical media, the People had a shot. Maybe it was because so many Americans were illiterate or that the written word on paper was more tangeable and permanent or that there was so much less media...

Now the news media is nothing more than sports talk radio, rooting for one team or another...treating trivial tidbits as if they were the true issues, and picking on the flaws of every personality while ignoring the big picture. All the while, they do the bidding of their sponsors- who are exclusively corporate- who want to direct and limit the conversation.

What Juan Williams, Rick Sanchez, and Sarah Palin do or say means nothing, except to those who want to promote themselves and distract you from the more important stuff, which is centrally the manipulation of the language, perception and "truth". As an entity, the media is nothing more than a false religion.

And Bush was most at fault because he allowed Iraq to proceed when he knew that it should not have. Don't blame the media for being what it is.

If Clinton did what Bush did the NY Times would have a statue of him in their Lobby and Clintons Birthday would now be a national holiday.

Check out Marsall McLuhan's writings, the medium has become the message. The news folks are more important than the news... it has become about them.
