like rats from the sinking ship... it continues.... i'm sure this one, like all the others, are so that he can "spend more time with family"

Breaking: Trent Lott To Resign Before End Of The Year

Sen. Trent Lott (R-MS) is reportedly informing close allies that he plans to resign his Senate seat before the end of the year. NBC reports, “It’s possible a formal announcement of his plans could take place as early as today.” Politico adds, “If he resigns, Lott would become the sixth Republican senator to announce they were stepping down this election cycle.”

He just won re-election in '06 without much effort needed. I sniffed around a bit looking for Mississippi's replacement structure; but kept coming up empty. I expect Lott to be replaced by MS's Governor, Haley Barbour, who's only the second Republican to hold the seat in over 50 years. Barbour may very well step down to run for VP. So him getting a new R into the Senate now keeps the seat on their side and gives the new guy 5 or so years to build a reputation in place.

Typical political crap. Lott knew he wasn't going to finish this term IMO. He should have stepped down before the last election or been honest with the voters. Politicians on both sides wonder why the people hold them in such disdain. I have to figure this sort of deception plays a big role.

Good riddance. I can't stand Lott. He comes across as such a fony POS. When he speaks, you just know he's lying about whatever it is he's talking about.

Just heard that on the news, if he quits now before the end 0f the year he will only have to wait 1 year--$$$$$$$$$$$$
