Sarkozy: friend of America, friend of Bush, gets first big win
Not bad. Seems like he is following in the way of the Iron Lady of Britain and Andrea Merkel of Germany: be a friend, not an enemy, of America. The world will be better for it.
And for those conspiring to do him in, this is not a good sign:
Collapse of Rail, Subway Strike Is a First Success for Sarkozy
By NICHOLAS WAPSHOTT
Staff Reporter of the Sun
November 23, 2007
President Sarkozy of France is on the verge of a breakthrough in his ambitious plan to wean his country off the restrictive working practices he believes stand in the way of national prosperity.
Yesterday, the strike of rail and subway workers that has crippled France for nine days was clearly crumbling, as workers began returning to work in large numbers and union branches conceded that support for the dispute is collapsing.
"We think a dynamic of return to work has begun," Julie Vion, a spokeswoman for France's state-owned railroad network, SNCF, said.
Union leaders began to concede defeat yesterday. "We have to face reality. Since yesterday's negotiations, things have changed. The strike is no longer the solution. The strike strategy is no longer winning," a leader of the Sud union representing Paris underground railway workers, Philippe Touzet, said in an interview with Bloomberg News.

Was it ever suggested that France was an enemy of the US by any actions, statements or policies?
Re: Sarkozy: friend of America, friend of Bush, gets first big win
Time will tell if this is a win or not, even though they have returned to work the usual response is a lot of passive agressive acts that often create as much havoc as the strike itself... find it hard to believe that the very strong French unions will just quit..
Glad to see we can eat french fries again, sick and tired of those freedom fries.

Unions, like corporations, have reached the limit of their greed in the publics eyes. The people are tired of corporate, and union greed. It's not just the people here, but it seems it the people over there now too. I said it when it happened to my friends in Italy, the Euro is the worst thing that could happen to the citizens of Europe. The Euro has force fed european countries into the global market, with little individual flexibility to combat inflation.

Right. And who gets to pay for all that?? John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, John Edwards, Barbara Streisand, and Jane Fonda going to be leading the way, ponying up their fortunes???
