At left: Iott (center), who is labeled under his pseudonym "Reinhardt," is pictured at the ReenactorFest at the Sheraton Hotel in Chicago in 2006. The photo caption says the reenactors are pictured with "Herr Schneider, a REAL Vet of 5.SS 'Wiking'!"
Rich Iott, the Tea Party-supported GOP nominee for Congress in Ohio's 9th District, is part of a group that likes to don German Waffen SS uniforms and participate Nazi re-enactments, Atlantic journalist Josh Green revealed on "Real Time with Bill Maher."
The group, called Wiking, acts out exploits from the 5th SS Panzer Division Wiking, an actual Nazi division, which fought on the Eastern Front during World War II .
Iott, who confirms his involvement with the group, denies any belief in the principles of Nazism.
"It's purely historical interest in World War II," he told The Atlantic.
Iott can't remember when he joined the group, although his name appears on a group roster from 2003. He says he participated in the group with his son "as a father-son bonding thing."

Americans play Call of Duty and kill virtual Americans. Why can't some dude dress up and reenact Nazis fighting Commies?
Would I vote for him? Hell no. But I don't see a real big issue with him dressing as a German from WW2. If you talk to a WW2 vet, Korea vet, etc.. you often hear how they go back and meet veterans from the other side and they bond and hold no animosity. The war is over. If this guy starts saying Jews should be rounded up in camps, ok, there's something going on. But just playing dress up? Na. Not a big deal.
Does this mean that Revoluntary War reinactors who dress up as Red Coats wish we were still a colony?
Same with Civil War guys are the Blues against slavery and the Grays for slavery?
Really?

"How does (Miami-Ohio offensive lineman Brandon) Brooks not get invited to the combine? How did Vollmer not get invited to the combine? I don't know. We can't really worry about that. We just have to try to evaluate them the best we can."

The resident ball washer of the right appears and sounds stupid once again.. it is ok in your world for a prospective elected official to dress up like a naziit is a wonderful world of the right, defend them to the end.

It's a free country but you have to wonder why they dress up like Nazi's. ...Red flag as far as I'm concerned
My thoughts exactly. 13 could be spot on w/the Civil War and revolutionary War re-enactors analogy (though at least the confederates were Americans, and even in the Revolutionary War the Brits and many of the residents were essentially of the same mindset), but it raises some questions

Except the Nazi's killed over 6 million+ innocents in their quest for ethnic cleansing.... the Red Coats were occupiers of our country during a colonial time.. . quite a bit of difference...
A reasonable person would assume that this dude has some very dark fantasy about power and the way the world works...
But if that is ok, so be it.. the world works strangely right now.

If you don't know the difference between a war and a genocide - or the difference between a soldier in an army and an officer in the SS - I'm certainly not going to take the time to explain it to you.
