To me, it's all based upon numbers. If the number or Muslim students is significant, then it's fine. But if there was just 1-5% Muslim student population, then it's stupid. You don't make policy around pleasing everyone.

Most school systems base their decisions around numbers. If a certain number of people would take the day off due to their religion, then it's not worth keeping open. At least that's what I read about school policy regarding religious holidays.

I know Brookline has more Jewish holidays than other Boston schools. But that's the way it should be based upon the Jewish population of Brookline.

In that case perhaps you should read the entire article, PR, before you wall off Cambridge and San Francisco. (Although what SF has to do with anything here I fail to understand.)

For that matter - are you against the Cambridge schools closing for Jewish holidays? Jews are, statistically, a very small percentage of Americans across the nation.

I did read the entire article and saw it on the news last night.

But the percent of Jews across America has nothing to do with a local policy. But you're right on a national level and this is the very reason we don't have any Jewish national holidays. The Jewish population of Cambrige is the only relevant number.

Cambrigde, MA is very, very similar to San Francisco...just as an FYI for future reference.

The cities of Warwick, Providence and Cranston all celebrate the Jewish & Christian Holidays, but not the Muslim one's... the Jewish population has been decreasing in the past 10 years, the muslim population is below 1%...

Cranston for example is 1.5% Jewish..
Providence for example is 1.5% Jewish..
