"The homeowner, Gene Cranick, said he offered to pay whatever it would take for firefighters to put out the flames, but was told it was too late. They wouldn't do anything to stop his house from burning.
Each year, Obion County residents must pay $75 if they want fire protection from the city of South Fulton. But the Cranicks did not pay.
The mayor said if homeowners don't pay, they're out of luck."
for me, this is just more proof that the country is going down the tubes

A question to those of you who think that the contracted FD did the right thing by letting the house burn because the owner had not paid his fee.
What if there had been someone in the house?
What if, when the fire inspector is doing his walk-through looking for the cause of the fire he finds himself stepping in skeleton?
You are aware that sometimes there are people in a house fire that are not expected to be there, aren't you? Even when a homeowner says, "Everyone's out," that sometimes they are not? There was friend of a kid who was over playing and the parents were unaware. The 15 year old daughter was supposed to be in school but she cut and stayed home. Grandma who has a key stopped over to drop off a surprise cake, etc. etc.

Bull****. Spoken like a true welfare repicient, who has no belief in personal accountability. Principle says you follow the rules.
No. No it does not. See the stages of moral development for more information on principle with respect to the rules. And, of course, we all know that I am not a welfare recipient and that I am immensely accountable. I work 60+ hour weeks and do grad school at night. Nice try, though.
