California Governor Signs Marijuana Decriminalization Bill
Okay ... who is moving to California ...
Quote:
Currently, small-time pot possession is "semi-decriminalized" in California. There is no possible jail sentence and a maximum $100 fine. But because possession is a misdemeanor, people caught with pot are "arrested," even if that means only they are served a notice to appear, and they must appear before a court.

Re: California Governor Signs Marijuana Decriminalization Bill
Good job Arnold!
However....
Prop 19 is on the Ballot in November here.
Come November....it can be legal out here. The polls are favoring it being legal by about 5-9%. Nate Silver (fivethirtyeight.com) has an interseting take on the polling and what he calls
"The Bradley effect was the notion -- broadly speaking -- that people lie to pollsters and say what they think they want to hear. It refers to Tom Bradley losing the 1982 California governor's race even though he was leading in late polls. The idea is that white voters, out of some vague racial guilt, told pollsters they were voting for Bradley but didn't once in the safe confines of the voting booth.
Silver: Nevertheless, it's possible that we're seeing some sort of Bradley effect in reverse, which I've reluctantly dubbed the "Broadus Effect" after the given name of the rapper Snoop Dogg, himself a frequent consumer of cannabinoid-rich products.
So the idea here is that once voters are in the cozy confines of the ballot box and can register their choice in secret, they may feel free to say yea on Prop 19.
And with that, we have delightful new lingo for the Prop 19 battle: The Broadus Effect."

The pot today, is significantly different from yesterday's. When I partook in my younger days, I could count on a nap shortly thereafter. Today, (I don't smoke too often) it has an effect like speed. Someone gave me a taste of the Ca. medical stuff sold in stores, and it was probably as powerful as anything I've ever had (which is a little disturbing, to be honest).
Read an article on who's for and against legalization, and the players are almost reversed of what you'd think.
Re: California Governor Signs Marijuana Decriminalization Bill
I'm surprised it's not legal country wide yet. It's way past time. People need to be responsible for themselves, not depend on the government to tell them what's good and bad. The war on drugs has cost us how much? We empower the Mexican mob by keeping it illegal.
I do have a question though, even if CA make it legal (prop 19), how does Federal law work vs State law. Even though it would be legal from state prosecution, it would not be safe from the feds.

This is an issue where the Feds should butt out, but will punish citizens of the state. If there is a court battle I will be rooting for the state.

We just have to try to evaluate them the best we can."
