"We deeply regret that it happened, and we apologize to all the individuals who were affected by such abhorrent research practices," the joint statement said. "The conduct exhibited during the study does not represent the values of the United States, or our commitment to human dignity and great respect for the people of Guatemala."

I don't know about you, but I wasn't even alive then, so I am not sure that I feel like there is anything particularly wrong with me based on this atrocity.

Frankly, I wouldn't be that offended if they still did it.
If you're on death row, and we have to pay millions to keep you alive just to kill you, we might as well gain something from you!

How about the military? Would it upset you to know that they've also experimented upon military personal without their knowledge?
Ever heard of MKULTRA? MKULTRA officially got underway in April, 1953, and experiments included administering LSD to CIA employees, military personnel, doctors, other government agents, prostitutes, mentally ill patients, and members of the general public in order to study their reactions. LSD and other drugs were usually administered without the subject's knowledge or informed consent, a violation of the Nuremberg Code that the U.S. agreed to follow after World War II.

All I know is any older veterans who read this story who had an STD are now going to remember that needle they got in the nut sack and the scraping of the inside of their penis.

What? An apology 70 years later isn't acceptable?
People roll their eyes when someone brings up a conspiracy theory. Do you think the U.S. kept this hushed up for a few years? Do you think someone may have come out publicly to say that our government infected people with STD's. Did they have tinfoil back then?
But then was then, and our government has learned their lesson..................
