Default PBS Frontline: Cheney's Law

not too too much that is particularly new here, besides an excellent, all-encompassing narrative on "Palpatine" and his machinations towards scrapping the Bill of Rights and the Geneva Convention...

watch: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/cheney/

PBS Frontline dominates modern journalism today... it's not even remotely close...

For three decades Vice President Dick Cheney conducted a secretive, behind-closed-doors campaign to give the president virtually unlimited wartime power. Finally, in the aftermath of 9/11, the Justice Department and the White House made a number of controversial legal decisions. Orchestrated by Cheney and his lawyer David Addington, the department interpreted executive power in an expansive and extraordinary way, granting President George W. Bush the power to detain, interrogate, torture, wiretap and spy -- without congressional approval or judicial review.

Now, as the White House appears ready to ignore subpoenas in the investigations over wiretapping and U.S. attorney firings, FRONTLINE examines the battle over the power of the presidency and Cheney's way of looking at the Constitution.

"The vice president believes that Congress has very few powers to actually constrain the president and the executive branch," former Justice Department attorney Marty Lederman tells FRONTLINE. "He believes the president should have the final word -- indeed the only word -- on all matters within the executive branch."

...

"Through interviews with key administration figures, Cheney's Law documents the bruising bureaucratic battles between a group of conservative Justice Department lawyers and the Office of the Vice President over the legal foundation for the most closely guarded programs in the war on terror," says FRONTLINE producer Michael Kirk. This is Kirk's 10th documentary about the Bush administration's policies since 9/11.

Started to watch it, then erased it as it was pretty much the same old, same old.. overall pretty depressing that the majority of people in this country do not see him as he really is... the puppetmaster.

at first, yes... but parts 3 and 4 are especially excellent... the Goldsmith stuff, and Cheney trying to push for suppression Miranda Rights and their curious definition of torture, etc. ... undeniable...

Nephew Obama -"Hi Uncle Dick, I want to be president, I love you Uncle Dick, are you coming to our cookout"

Uncle Dick -"Hi Obie, I love you too, yes I'm coming to the cookout it will be good to see the whole family together"

Jack Goldsmith, the former deputy AG, is a true patriot by the way, even if just for his book "The Terror Presidency"...

in that book, he quotes David Addington, current Chief of Staff to Vice President Dick Cheney:
"(Addington said) we’re one bomb away from getting rid of that obnoxious court,” referring to the secret FISA court that rules on warrants for secret wiretapping by the United States government
