Yup, we didn't know about it.

[3] The only U.S. president to have acknowledged the Armenian genocide is Ronald Reagan. In a proclamation on April 22, 1981, Reagan stated, “Like the genocide of the Armenians before it, and the genocide of the Cambodians which followed it — and like too many other such persecutions of too many other peoples — the lessons of the Holocaust must never be forgotten.” It should be noted that Reagan was previously governor of California, which many Armenian immigrants have made their home in the past few decades. This was his first year as President. However, in later years, he also avoided the use of the term "genocide."

...............

The issue of the US recognition of the Armenian genocide has been debated more than once in both houses of the Congress. During one such debate in late 2000, Dennis Hastert, the speaker of the House of Representatives, withdrew a resolution recognizing the Armenian genocide on the very eve of the vote, after a personal request by President Bill Clinton. Hastert’s press release noted that, “because the President has raised grave national security concerns, he has requested that the House not consider H.Res.596, Affirmation of the United States Record on the Armenian Genocide Resolution. I have acceded to this request.” Acknowledging that the bipartisan resolution “would have enjoyed support among the majority of the House,” Hastert noted that, according to the President, “the passage of this resolution may adversely impact the situation in the Middle East and risk the lives of Americans.” These were the first few weeks of the second Palestinian Intifada.

Like I said, they have a protocal when something like this happens. The job of the SS is to secure the safety of the president, VP, etc. Also, it's hard to assume what any one else would do, since something like this had never happened before.

Well don't forget Clinton had all those years of military service under his belt. When it came time for him to serve his country, he stepped up with multiple tours of duty in Vietnam. So I am sure we are all impressed with his courage and if he were President on 9/11, he would have no doubt jumped into an F-4 (Independence Day style) and gone over and bombed those Taliban S.O.B's himself... just like he did in 'Nam...

What an amusing post. The present President, avoided Vietnam by receiving favors that allowed him to get into the National Guard. Then, its debatable whether he fulfilled his commitment. The second in command, avoided Vietnam also, had five deferments, said he had other priorities. When told that the country was under attack, W sat in a chair for 7 minutes while the children read My Pet Goat. Let's not scare the kids, the population of the United States will be ok. Then, he bombs a country with no ties to 9/11. When its all over he does jump into an F-4, lands on an aircraft carrier and proclaims Mission Accomplished. Our hero, George W. Bush. Wake up!!!!

I just thought it was disgrace that when the whole country is scared, our president didn't step up to the plate. I have no doubt that any other president (of those I'm familiar with) would have gone to DC and stood on the White House lawn and reassured the American people. Clinton use to overrule the Secret Service all the time to meet and greet people in foreign countries. He was not afraid.

Patters, with all due respect, meeting people in other countries for tea, and 9/11 are two very different things. When planes are crashing into the Pentagon, and other places in the country, the SS isn't letting the president fly to the lawn of the White House to pump his fist and say "Bring it on!". That's just not happening.

We're fighting a losing battle. Some people, who have absolutely no shame, are just determined to wallow in ignorance. If the exact same thing happened to Clinton, Patters would be kissing his arse in the most pitiful and obsequious fashion, telling us all how wonderful he was to have been in the Oral Office by the end of the day.
