Now that we've destroyed Iraq, I think we will have a moral obligation to provide them with humanitarian aid for a long time. But, aid in the form of food, water, and medical supplies is a lot cheaper than war.

About 8 million Iraqis nearly a third of the population need immediate emergency aid because of the humanitarian crisis caused by the war, relief agencies said Monday.

Those Iraqis are in urgent need of water, sanitation, food and shelter, said the report by Oxfam and the NGO Coordination Committee network in Iraq.

The report said 15 percent of Iraqis cannot regularly afford to eat, and 70 percent are without adequate water supplies, up from 50 percent in 2003. It also said 28 percent of children are malnourished, compared with 19 percent before the 2003 invasion.

"Basic services, ruined by years of war and sanctions, cannot meet the needs of the Iraqi people," said Jeremy Hobbs, the director of Oxfam International. "Millions of Iraqis have been forced to flee the violence, either to another part of Iraq or abroad. Many of those are living in dire poverty."

That could prove difficult if the forecast of massive bloodshed and intertribal fighting, many more US lives will be lost in an effort to distribute supplies.. but that should have been thought of before or planned for, but the WH crew in their haste did not think all of this through.

They didn't forget to think of it, either. It was an intentional or criminally negligent omission. They don't care about the lives of Iraqis or the US troop casualties. How could anyone think that the White House and Pentagon couldn't forsee this happening? There had to have been people in the NSA, Rand, and CIA who forsaw this but were intentionally and selectively ignored. ...Add this to the list of crimes by the Bush Pig.

This just points to why war should be a last resort, not a first one. Even though I'm sure there were some starving people in Iraq before we got there, the whole Pottery Barn thing really never goes away.

btw, Pottery Barn actually doesn't have any sort of 'You break it, you own it.' type policy. Sure if you storm into one of their locations with tanks and bombs and stuff they'll probably sue you; but if you accidentally break a knick knack or something, you're ok. One more lie from the Bush Administration.
