For the biggest day of his life, Fiesta Bowl star Ian Johnson isn't taking any chances.
Since receiving more than two dozen verbal and written personal threats, the Boise State running back, who is African-American, has retained several off-duty police officers and security guards to watch over his wedding tomorrow to a white cheerleader.
Johnson, who scored the winning points in the Fiesta Bowl, made headlines when he proposed to girlfriend Chrissy Popadics on national television.
Soon after the Jan. 1 proposal, he started receiving hateful phone calls and letters mailed to the school's football office from people angry at his interracial relationship.

Re: Football Star Hires Security After Wedding Threats
This sucks beyond belief!
Is there any way we can kick Idaho out of the country?
What year is this - 1952? It boggles the mind that there are still people of all colors who harbor these twisted and retarded ideas. I'm so sick of crap like that.
Re: Football Star Hires Security After Wedding Threats
Kick Idaho out of the country? Do you think that the absolute moron, tard, POS, scumbag MF'ers that are doing this, represent the entire state of Idaho? Those dumb potato heads. I mean, it's not like this would ever happen in Massachusetts. Nope, never. Certainly not here.
This is beyond tragic, and pathetic. Unfortunately, this is a sad reality of life. Prejudice, bigotry, terrorism, racism, etc.. will never go away permanently. There will always be some fringe retard that uses his extremist convictions to ruin the loves of others. I hope they trace the calls of the perpatrator(s), and stick there azz' in a jail cell to be Bubba's biatch.

"The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of doubt, what is laid before him." Leo Tolstoy, 1897
Re: Football Star Hires Security After Wedding Threats
Idaho has been a haven for fringe groups, but there have been some efforts to get rid of them.. SPLC filed some lawsuits and were successful.. but what concerns me more is the wanna be's which sometimes in their quest for publicity can be more dangerous than the real thing.

Maybe I'm getting older; but I see a silver lining in this cloud. Years ago the response to this story would have been the same as today. Something along the lines of:
"What the he!! is wrong with those people?"
Only yesterday it would have been directed at the couple. While today its directed, properly, at the whackjobs.

I always try to see the glass as 1/2 full.
Yeah, but you notice how quiet the righties here are being (with the exception of RW)?
