Iran and Syria, flush with victory after the takeover in Gaza, have decided that a weak Israeli government and an indecisive Bush administration will not respond strongly to a coup against Siniora. They have seen the feeble response of the new British Prime Minister, both to the domestic terror situation and the "release" of the BBC reporter, and have gauged him as a man without the stomach for hard decisions. They will attempt a coup in Lebanon within a few days, timed to correspond with UN deliberations over the Hariri murder. This will trigger a US response that Iran does not foresee. A focused propaganda campaign is being waged inside this country, aided and abetted by the Democrat party, but prompted and supported by external foes of the United States, which include Russia, China and Iran. The entire focus of the campaign is to limit the President's ability to counter the military moves made by this country's enemies in the Middle East. The campaign has been aimed at creating domestic opposition under the cynical banner of "Peace", at dampening the American will to fight with cries of "Defeat", and using disinformation to damage the public's trust in its President, while threatening "impeachment".
This campaign has been very successful, mostly because it has been so eagerly embraced by the Democrat party. The reason for the DP's embrace of this sedition is that the Party is being controlled by the Clintons, whose desire to return to power is much greater than their love of country. The moral defects which were on display during their decade in power are now being expressed as a desire for vengeance against the country that spurned their policies and tarnished their legacy.
President Bush is currently following a pattern similar in substance to that which he pursued before the Iraq war, but different in style. Seeking to avoid the accusation of a rush to war, he has delayed too long once again. Just as he foolishly allowed Powell to waste months of time in a diplomatic charade, allowing Iraq and its allies Russia, France and Syria to cleanse evidence of WMD from the battlefield and paint the President as a liar, Bush has now turned the reins over to an overmatched C. Rice in a fruitless attempt to resolve the Iran situation diplomatically. The style is different now. The President's ability to credibly communicate with the public has been damaged by disinformation and his own inadequate skills as an orator. Therefore the case for war is being made with less bluster, by proxies, such as Senator Lieberman, prepping the country before the blow.
All this enemy propaganda, all the diplomatic maneuvering by our foes, the movement of pawns like "al Qaeda" and "Hezbollah" on the battlefield, are aimed at destroying the President's will to act. But the President in the end will not be deterred from doing what is right. He is determined not to leave the crisis to his successor. When Iran and Syria undertake the Lebanon coup, it will set off a chain of events which will lead to:
-a pointless and wasted flurry of diplomacy, with much hand-wringing in the UN, the EU and among the Arab States. Blair will play a prominent media role, while quietly using his "friendship" with Bush to limit the American response.
- The destruction of Iran's nuclear capabilities and its military infrastructure by the US.
- Bombing of Israel by Hezbollah and Hamas.
- Damage to the Syrian army and the bombing of its radar and command facilities, which direct the Hezbollah arsenal, by the Israelis.
- The movement into Northern Iraq by Turkey under the cover of more prominent regional hostilities.
-mobilization of the so-called Mahdi army at the command of Iran.
-The closing of the straits of Hormuz
-Bombing of the Gulf States.
A main focus of the current "surge" in Iraq is to prepare the battlefield in anticipation of a conflict with Iran, limiting the ability of Iran to use offensive proxies inside Iraqi borders during the coming hostilities.
The end result of this war will be the defeat, but not the immediate overthrow, of the Mullahs, the withdrawal of Syria from Lebanon, and the birth of a modern, western Iraq. America will maintain military bases there for the foreseeable future. Post-war, the US, assisted by France, will apply great pressure to Syria in order to force Assad to hand over WMD taken from Iraq prior to Saddam's downfall. The domestic effect of this war will be the tarnishing of the antiwar movement and the Democrat Party prior to the election.
