Default Hypocrisy and Immigration

Terrific Article by Victor Hansen.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/art...ilization.html

an excerpt, the whole column is worthwhile.

Quote:
Middle Eastern and North African Muslims flock to Europe to enjoy a chance at tolerance and freedom long denied at home. But no sooner have many arrived than they slur their adopted continent as decadent, and chose instead to live by a de facto intolerant code of Sharia Law. Only in a free West do these immigrants have the opportunity of denying the free choice of association and lifestyle to their fellow Muslims. And yet if the West were to adopt their own Middle East nihilism, it would eventually itself devolve into a Libya, Syria, or Egypt. Then disenchanted, but unrepentant Muslim immigrants would desperately search for some new West that they could once again both simultaneously enjoy and destabilize.

Mexico counts on sending almost a million illegal aliens into the United States each year to ensure billions of dollars in remittance from expatriates, a sympathetic Hispanic lobbying presence in the United States, and easy exits for potential dissidents unhappy with Mexico City's failure to provide basic services for its own indigenous people.

To facilitate such massive illegal immigration, Mexican officials hector their American counterparts about our supposed illiberality in not letting millions more stream in unchecked. They have even gone so far as to publish a government comic book instructing their own citizens how to cross the American border safely--and in flagrant violation of our laws.

But Mexico has nearly the same problem with its own 600-mile southern border with Guatemala as we do with our own 1,800-mile common boundary with Mexico. Hundreds of thousands of Central and Southern Americans try to cross into Mexico, either to work as cheap laborers or to make their way eventually into the United States as competitors to illegal aliens from Mexico.

In response, Mexico's policy toward illegal immigrants on its southern border is as brutal as America's is humane. Violators are often summarily deported--if they are not first robbed by Mexican officials or beaten and killed by criminal gangs. Mexicans may lecture Americans about our purported sins in trying to secure our border, but they don't seem to care what their own government does to Guatemalans. Again, the irony arises that a government that has abandoned the rule of international law suddenly is worried that another country may be doing to it what it does to others.

Mexico is utterly pathetic. When those assclown officials go on the news and decry American policy I feel like tossing my remote at the screen. Mexico's policies toward immigrants are strict, harsh, and restrictive in comparrison to our blind ways. I hate that government down south. Talk about failing a wonderful group of people. I've been to Mexico 7 or 8 times in my life, and the people have always been terrific. That country should be a paradise, instead it's an embarrassment.

I agree the vast majority of Hispanic folks I have met are terrific. I don't have a problem with legal immigration. I do dislike illegal immigration and the tendency to not want to assimilate.

Most immigrants that come over are slow to "assimilate", whatever that means. Hello? Earth to patsfan13...this is a melting pot. We have Europeans and Asians that do not "assimilate", why is it you cons always whine about the Latinos?? Probably cuz they are brown huh?

Do you mean you would rather they all watch NASCAR, drink crappy beer, and shoot skeets like dumbass hicks?

Wow, you really are a true hack sometimes. Cons? So I take it everyone that has a problem with illegal immigration, and the current lack of assimilation, is just a "con" who has a problem with latino's (i.e. a they're just racist)? You really are transparent sometimes. Just look at this forum. There are leftists, right wing nuts, old schooler D/R's, libertarians, etc. who are all at odds with the current situation, and pretty much think the same on this issue. Of course, some people in here either see a posters name, and take the opposite track, or are simply an extension of a party ideology. This issue is interesting to me in that it seems to be ambiguous of party distinction for most people. Sadly, I guess it's not that way for all.

Oh my... if you had half a brain in your head, you would be humiliated at your own hypocrisy here.

In previous immigration periods people who came into the country learned English and sought to become Americans. Now people want to bring their language and culture with them unchanged.

This isn't very complex, at least I didn't think so.

Just to put things in perspective, since 1986(the year of the big amnesty) we've gained roughly 42 million naturally-born citizens. That's taking total live births and subtracting all deaths. We've also gained tens of millions of proper(non-amnesty related) non-natural born citizens through legal immigration. Every year its the same thing, for every single Rio swimmer or other illegitimate arrival there's 4 or 5 babies that sprout up, plus a legal immigrant or two. There's a flood all right; but its a flood of 100% Constitutionally-approved citizens that's crashing over us. Every day that goes by means the percentage of people who are not documented goes down in comparison to the total population. In other words this crisis is FIXING ITSELF as we sit here and melt down over it.

I don't think your data is accurate. BTW we don't even know how many illegal immigrants are in the US currently. Also the illegal population is is straining a lot of our services and infrastructure Hospitals, schools and so on. Also what is the cost of bringing say 20M + residents who can then bring in their extended families???/ SS cost Medicare and so on????

This is a pandora's box.

In 2004, an estimated 35.7 million foreign-born persons lived in the U.S. While in 1970 one person in twenty was foreign born, by 2004 the number had risen to one in eight.
