This is how it's going to play out.

Draw down of roughly 25-45% of forces from early 2008 to the end of the calendar year. There will then be an additional draw down in the following year to about 50,000 troops that will remain as the back bone to the government. That 50,000 +/- will not be withdrawn regardless of who is president in 2009. That force will remain for a couple of years, depending on the situation on the ground.

And all of this is followed up by a pix of Cheney on an aircraft carrier in the gulf, calling out Iran.. on and on and on and on and on... keep rattling those sabres.

Sadly, he's probaby right...........

Well, from his point of view anyway. I'll post part of a response to another thread here since it seems pretty germaine;

Quote:
You do know what pulling out would mean, correct? Plain and simple the Shia would violently put down the Sunni "insurgency" without our "meddling", which is a polite way of saying "ethnic cleansing". Order would be restored, but the bloodletting would be brutal. People like Sadr are foaming for the mouth at the opportunity, which is partially why many Shia are pushing for our withdrawal. By the same token, the sunnis, the same bastards that have been responsible for much of the non-AQ violence there, are suddenly begining to be more cooperative. They understand the Math. The smartest among them understand they need us more then the Shia do.

Don't get me wrong, alot of people here at home are of the mindset of. "Fine, not our problem" or "***** the sunni's, they've been nothing but a pain in our butt over there anyway" and "none of this is worth our blood and treasure". In fact, HERE is a article that pretty much advocate that very thing. It's by a left leaning guy too. There is a very small part of me that feels the same.

My personal opinion is that as much bad-will as already been generated. Pulling out and allowing an unmitigated bloodbath occur in the ME will trump it in spades. Plus, I don't think SA and other sunni states will sit idly by either, risking a wider ME conflict.

Basically, I was initially okay with the war, the reasons for it. Grew very tired and am profoundly disappointed with how it's gone so far. But right now I'm firmly in the "we broke it, we gotta fix it" camp. And yes, sadly, that will cost more american lives
.

Winnng Dirty.......... I suppose is still winning so perhaps there is some merit to it. But lets not kid ourselves, it would be a friggen bloodbath. What's a few million sunni's though

It's not as simple as we'd like it all to be, sadly.

We did the right thing in getting rid of Saddam and his Retarded Demented sons, we believed Saddam had weapons that were a threat to the rest of the world (our back stabbing democrats believed this also) but Saddam out foxed us, He Got Rid Of Them.

We made a big mistake in staying there and trying to help those f-cking stone age people, their women like being abused and they enjoy killing each other, they have been doing it for thousands of years we should now leave and let the rest of the world sit back and watch as they go about riding their donkeys, abusing their women and cutting each others arms and legs off, those smelly bastards are not worth one more American Life.

Leave and let them slaughter each other not our young men and women.

Don't let those sneaky bastard democrats start another war in Dafur, NO MORE WAR.
