Hard to digest this thread, as it is a very demented rant about actors.. actors, who have no bearing on anything I do, if you read the news this AM Baldwin is pretty much in all of the newspapers.. so that takes away from your argument. In a very real non-political, non-polarized world the only news about Gibson, Baldwin or Britney Spears would be what they have done in the entertainment world.. not what they are doing in the political world. We do not care Baldwin is not a poster child for the left(as much as you believe it) and Gibson is not a poster child for the right ( I believe this as do most others in this real world). They are what they are, actors who live lives of excess and there are people who pay attention to what they do, most of us do not give a care.
I disagree for the simple reason that these show business celebrities are the ones we pay billions of dollars to each year to entertain and *tell us* what is going on in the world. Even things we call "total fantasies" must have some connection that we can relate to, or these actors and their acting would never get an audience, they would never sell.
If these actors were as insignificant to the "real world", as you put it, then they would never make a dime and there would be no movies in theaters because people do not spend their money to see stuff that has no connection to their lives.
The fact is that these Hollywood icons become in some ways representatives of all of us. Different kinds of actors/actresses represent different kinds of people and different aspects of ourselves. They are VERY real to us, very real to how we relate with the world around us. Otherwise nobody would attend their performances. But people do attend and have attended for thousands of years.

Harry! Where you been man? I thought you went the way of Blue Collar. nice to see you bud!
3 day power outage, we had a "Al Gore" storm, the Robins were all screwed up, they were trying to dig up frozen worms in the snow, I still have the old family "Outhouse" out in the woods, I went out and used it during the outage the fumes went up in the air and are now probably drifting over Boob Gores Mansion in Connecticut.
We have one of those skinny pasty faced rich bastard environmental whacko's with granny glasses who just moved onto the Island she went to a town meeting and told the selectmen she wants to pass a law that would prohibit anybody from relieving themselves out of doors, they booed and yelled her right out of the hall, can you imagine telling all these old loggers and lobster men that they can't P!ss in the woods.
This dip ***** batty b!tch won't wear deodorant, she says it pollutes the atmosphere, she walked by my car the other day at the Post Office and my f-cking engine stalled, after she gets her mail the postmaster has to fumigate the whole building, she has bumper stickers all over her Volvo about trees, Polar Bears and Owls.
We'll get rid of her.

Good God, and to think I once owned a Volvo (!!). Hope it's not contagious.
ok, now i know im going to regret this, and i'll have to go to church an extra time this weekend, but the combination of Alec Baldwin and tree huggers in one thread, combined with my youtube addiction, is too much! its too much
Lord forgive me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uRt_4y0wKc
I think it is important to note the comparison of the two messages by these two well known celebrities is quite different: one is actually calling for the kind of horror we just witnessed in Virginia, while the other was expressing his frustration about the wars in the world; Gibson didn't call for anybody to be killed, and he never uttered his comments on a nationally televised program that reaches millions of people, which Baldwin did and probably with premeditation. Huge difference.
As to Gibson's movie, "Passion of Christ", I saw it, reluctantly, because it is a subject close to my heart: the life of Jesus Christ. I was reluctant to go because I knew what I was going to see, the awful details of Jesus' last day on earth. The pain of God's heart in watching His Son getting betrayed, arrested, beaten to a pulp, and then forced to carry his own cross to his crucifixion is almost too much to imagine; I know it was hard for me.
I believe Gibson wanted people to feel that pain of Christ and the pain of God, the Father. I think we all need to know how much suffering this man of God went through as well as how much the Father went through. We all need to reflect on how Jesus, the one whom God had recognized as His "only begotten son", went through an unimaginable life of suffering and mistreatment all for the cause of showing us and telling us about God and God's way. As the saying goes, "No greater love is there than to lay down one's own life to save another."
But the question now is: do we need to force those who love us that much to again go the way of suffering?

Absolutely, Baldwin's quote from a comedy show equals the Virginia massacre while Gibson's hateful rant should get him one of George Bush's Medals of Honor.

Why don't you try using Baldwin's quote on homosexuals, blacks, Hispanics, or women ??? Tell us how it goes. If you survive.
Then, have a friend -- since you'll be gone by then -- use Gibson's quote on white male Republicans. Don't get too drunk, coked up and debauched at the huge celebration you'll be invited to attend !!

Again, could you give me a link? I do not follow Alex Baldwin. In reading your post on Mel Gibson, you sure sounded like you were defending him.
I would see a movie starring Gibson or Cruise, maybe Baldwin, but really could care less when they get up on a soapbox. Although, both Gibson and Cruise lost a lot of credibility in the past year (Baldwin didn't really have too much to lose).

You can disagree all you want, however in your mission in Russia you get "select" information, in my circle of people in the NE US, we do not really care about any of this info. Most of the working and retired people I know loathe this information and do not give a crap about Gibson, Baldwin or any Hollywood actor or singer. Most of the people I know are too busy working and taking care of their families, to be distracted by overpaid, excessive actors and actresses.
Somewhere and someday you have to look at where you are, what you do and what you have access to and realize that your view is somewhat limited and your views may be skewed.
