Default Horror and Tragedy in Blacksburg, VA

We should take some time out from our usual bickering to acknowledge the horrific events taking place on campus of VA Tech. 20+ dead - even worse than Columbine - in a school assault. Details are still unfolding but as of now the gunman is confirmed as being dead but there have been no reports as to whether or not it was a student. (It probably was since the shootings began in a dorm, but there is no confirmation of much of anything yet).

I hope this is small enough. (happy face goes here, I ran out of pictures.)

Wow, that is just horrible. I have a daughter starting college next year. I guess you can't take anything for granted anymore. Don't forget to tell your family you love them every day.

Terribly sad. I just can't comprehend mindless cruelty and our inability to identify such sick people before they commit such crimes. I wonder if it will turn out that there were warning signs that no one paid attention to?

YES because then it will be someone else's fault.

People suck. And guns suck.

What I can't understand is how the gunman can shoot people in a Dorm, get out and then enter another building two hours later and begin shooting again. Shouldn't all the buildings have been emptied by then.

I wonder why they are not releasing the name of the gunman?????

It does seem like a long time. Maybe they thought it was over and didn't want to start a mass panic - although with Cell Phones and Texting, etc, I would think word would spread very quickly; but, again, the students probably thought the gunman was dead at the first scene.

Now saying 32 dead, 24 wounded.. very sad day, early reports indicate that the shooter may be of southeast asian descent...

As one who works on a campus, I find this distressing to say the least, but heck it's distressing to us all I'm sure.

At times like this I always worry about

a) all the violent video games and movies, which 99.9% of people handle but an occasional crazy emulates;

b) all the kids that we as a nation put in daycare, teaching them that their own parents would rather be somewhere else, thus causing alienation.

I agree 100%
Sad day for us.
We live in a society that is schizophrenic about violence like this. On one hand we culturally glorify it, and on the other, ...well....
