Default Atheist bashing and other statistics

This Newsweek poll has some interesting numbers.

http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/17875540/site/newsweek/

For instance,

62% of Americans would not vote for an atheist candidate

66% of Americans are dissatisfied with the way things are going.

60% disapprove of Bush's handling of the job.

28% of Republicans (and 81% of Democrats) support the Senate resolution calling for a pullout from Iraq by next March.

But here's the most surprising result ....

Ready?

...

14% of agnostics/atheists believe God created humans more or less in their present form and an additional 27% of agnostics/atheists believe God guided the process. Atheists just ain't what they used to be.

Newsflash: Atheist is not synonymous with agnostic. There is nothing inconsistent with someone who claims to be an agnostic saying "Well, if I have to give an guess, I would say I believe there is a God."

Is a person of shaken faith an Agnostic? I don't think so, I think that person is just po'd at his church/temple/whatever. Obviously the 'Atheists' in that poll just don't understand the term.

I don't think Athiests should be bashed in any way but I also don't think an Athiest should interfere with another persons beliefs.

Being an Athiest is nobody's business but the Athiests unless the Athiest starts telling the believer that he is wrong, if the Athiest starts telling the believer that he is wrong than the Athiest opens himself up to some bashing.

I believe in something, when you wake up in the morning and step out into the world you have to say to yourself "all this ***** didn't just happen".

When you hear of Wars, people killing each other just because they are different, little children dying in fires or being murdered, watching a good person dying from cancer, watching the people jumping from windows trying to fly on 9/11 and all the other human sufferings we hear of in our daily lives it is very easy to understand the Athiest.
When Jeffrey Dahmer was arrested I thought, "why would a Good God create a person like that in his own image".

Yes my brothers and sisters things happen daily to make one wonder and there are times that I say to myself "Harry, your very close to being an Athiest" but I haven't turned that corner yet, I haven't crossed the line I still think there is a Supreme Being out there, I don't believe there was a big bang, if there was where did the big bang come from, if there was a big bang something had to create the big bang, where did that come from, who created the creator of the big bang and on and on?

The Bible might explain all the horrors that go on in this world with these simple words "The Lord Moveth In Mysterious Ways His Wonders To Perform".

You are born with the ability to be a good kind loving decent person, then you are on your own, if you choose the wrong path then the Creator will take care of you later.

One more thing before I leave, it is written that the Lord does move in mysterious ways, one of those mysteries is, why did he create us in such a fashion that we as his living creatures enjoy eating each other (Sirloin Medium Rare) ?

Don't BASH the Athiest though, the Athiest could be right, but if he is wrong he is also one of God's Children, so leave him alone, if he is wrong, then Some Day He Will Also Join The Family Circle At The Throne (Daddy Sang Bass Mama Sang Tenor)
Amen.

It's ludicrous that in this modern age, individuals are still brainwashed into these irrational cults. Organized religion is not particularly different from other cults formed by crazies like Mansion and Koresh. The only difference is that the former has been legitimized through years of brainwashing (and oppression and murder). The fundamental irrational nature however is identical. Separation of church and state was a good beginning but as nutty conservatives in America demonstrate, the existence of the concept is not enough to restrain the crazies from trying to force others to abide by their cults' teachings. It's disturbing that these types of people use their cult membership and irrational teachings to try to infringe upon the rights of others. Banning religion and freeing future generations from such teachings would be a start in the right direction of creating a completely rational, democratic society. These polls demonstrate that America still has a long way to go.

I'm no fan of organized religion, but I've never heard of people being murdered at the local Presbyterian Church or Orthodox Temple. At least around where I live.
