Excellent choice of words, and fitting to this discussion. I'm in the "may be" department. What scares me is the people pointing to the weather outside, or at Polar Bears changing color, and saying "see, I told you!". Although, I do enjoy the funny posts and puns.

If you want to get into semantics, then okay, it is called 'global warming' because the globe itself is experiencing a slight average temperature increase. This does not rule out the fact that the globe has tons of different ecosystems which all react differently. In fact, catastrophic or unusually cold temperatures in some areas is a likely result of changing ocean/weather patterns from 'global warming'. As an example: melted water from huge glaciers can screw up the Atlantic deep ocean current, so Britain would end up with really COLD and nasty weather if warm ocean flow from near Spain was disrupted or slowed.

I'm not saying this applies to you, but I feel like a lot of rednecks who say similar things tend to simplify situations to the point where they don't understand what they are saying. People who get smug over news about areas of the world that experience cold weather really embarass themselves.

IMO people who talk about global warming but refuse to acknowledge the role of the heat generator - the sun - emnbarass themselves just as much.

I don't think anyone has ever said that the sun doesn't have anything to do with our temperature, but what happens to those rays when they get to us is equally important (do they get absorbed, reflected?)

And, yes, most people say the sun has nothing to do with it simply by never mentioning it.

If my kid always got bad grades and I kept saying "you didn't study enough, you didn't study enough, you didn't study enough" then I am, in essence, saying that that fact that he might be stupid has nothing to do with it by discussing the other possubility to the total exclusion of the fact that the kid might be a moron.

Watch the news. Count the number of stories on global warming that acknowledge the possible role of the sun's temperature.
