Default Healthcare for all? Poll shows americans would be on board.

A majority of Americans say the federal government should guarantee health insurance to every American, especially children, and are willing to pay higher taxes to do it, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll.

While the war in Iraq remains the overarching issue in the early stages of the 2008 campaign, access to affordable health care is at the top of the public's domestic agenda, ranked far more important than immigration, cutting taxes or promoting traditional values.

Americans showed a striking willingness in the poll to make tradeoffs to guarantee health insurance for all, including paying as much as $500 more in taxes a year and forgoing future tax cuts.

I for one think a HEALTHY and EDUCATED population pays off in the long run. Would you all be willing to pay more in taxes to ensure every american had heathcare?

If the Government ran it it would turn into another "Walter Reed"

Free Communist (Hillary) Health Care:

The New Fidel Castro Hospital NYC 10:00 AM:
Man stumbles into the Hospital off the street and goes to the front desk, there is a sign on the wall that reads "FREE HEALTH CARE GOD BLESS HILLARY CLINTON GOD BLESS LIBERALISM"
The man says to the nurse, "Help me please"
Nurse- "What seems to be the trouble"
Man- "I can't breath, my chest hurts"
Nurse- "Have a seat in room four please"

The next day, 10:00 AM, New Communist Hillary Hospital:
A man in a wheelchair with one arm, no legs and a little sign attached around his neck that says "I am blind, I have Parkinsons Disease" comes down the hallway and stops in front of the nurses desk, he removes a breathing tube from his mouth and says, "Good morning nurse"
The nurse replies, "Good morning Doctor Shakesbad"
Dr Shakesbad asks, "do you have anything for me this "wheeze" morning"
Nurse "yes doctor, there is a gentleman in room four with chest pains"
Doctor "well, go in and tell him I'll see him next Tuesday"
Nurse "yes Doctor"

The nurse steps into room four, there is a dead man on the floor, human feces and urine are all over the walls, the nurse bends over and yells at the dead body, "DR SHAKESBAD WILL SEE YOU NEXT TUESDAY"

Mr Gorbachev Tear Down That Wall.

As they say in tennis: it's all in the wrist.

If they could do it right, it would be a Godsend. Unfortunately, the way government programs are currently run, there is so much corruption, so much graft, so much theft, and so little of the budget goes to the intended recipient, I fear socialized medicine in the U.S. would break the bank in a few years. In 20 years America would look like Mexico does now, and Mexico wouldn't look a bit better, either.

That is exactly what I was trying to say with my story about Dr Shakesbad

I don't want a damn thing to do with any doctor that people like Auntie Nancy Pela$shole tell me I have to go to, I don't want Governmant appointed Doctors touching me or my family, I would rather have my oilman remove my gallbladder than any Doctor Uncle Teddy sends me, but of course Uncle Teddy and Aunt nancy will still have their "Private Physicians".

Yet you'd trust an HMO or PPO to choose?

I think the question is a little skewed because as asked, it's no wonder it's going to get a majority. However when the inconvenient questions of how much it would really cost and how good the care would be, things get more complicatied.

"Would you all be willing to pay more in taxes to ensure every american had heathcare?"

To answer the question . . . as things stand, no. If it were for emergency, critical care then yes. I'm talking about Grandma with cancer or her grandson with a broken leg. However "healthcare" is always pushed way beyond what is necessary. We'd end up paying for Grandpa's Viagra or urinary flow pills or his grandson's ADD pills. And then my answer is no.

It's an absolutely ridiculous poll. If someone asks "Do you think everyone in America should have health care?" then virtually every single participant is going to say yes.

But let's try another poll... maybe one that asks... "Do you favor having your taxes raised, leading to significantly higher unemployment so you might lose your job, so that every illegal alien that manages to cross the border and get into America can have free, unlimited health care?"

That question's even worse. First, it sounds like it would be a program only for illegal aliens. Second, "unlimited" health care was never on the menu.
