Default Are we funding al Qaeda?

Man.......how much more FUBAR can this situation get?

http://thinkprogress.org/2007/02/25/hersh-qaeda/

There has been some violence. So America, my country, without telling Congress, using funds not appropriated, I don’t know where, by my sources believe much of the money obviously came from Iraq where there is all kinds of piles of loose money, pools of cash that could be used for covert operations.

All of this should be investigated by Congress, by the way, and I trust it will be. In my talking to membership — members there, they are very upset that they know nothing about this. And they have great many suspicions.

We are simply in a situation where this president is really taking his notion of executive privilege to the absolute limit here, running covert operations, using money that was not authorized by Congress, supporting groups indirectly that are involved with the same people that did 9/11, and we should be arresting these people rather than looking the other way…

BLITZER: And your bottom line, Sy…

HERSH: … and could lead to a real mess…

BLITZER: Your bottom line is that Negroponte was aware of this, obviously, and he wanted to distance himself from it? That is why he decided to give up that position and take the number two job at the State Department?

HERSH: He — that is one of the reasons, I was told. Negroponte also was not in tune with Cheney. There was a lot of complaints about him because he was seen as much of a stickler, too ethical for some of the operations the Pentagon wants to run.

I'd be more willing to read it if it were.

This all makes sense when you think about it. We let the genie out of the bottle by overthrowing Saddam and the sunni sphere of influence in Iraq. Now that the Shia are on full scale ascendancy, Bush "allies" like Saudi Arabia are threatening us to do something about undoing what we've done. Hence, you get the emergence of truth about what alot of us have been suggesting is playing out all along- support for the very fundamentalist whackos that attacked us.

By enabling Iran, we've expanded the regional tensions. Now, Bush-Cheney are trying to put the genie back in the bottle by ramping up support for the counterweight- the sunni extremists. This in addition to Israels confrontation with Lebanon.

When will it dawn on the knuckledraggers that their beloved hero in the war on terror, George W Bush, is supporting the same factions that brought us 9-11 and has been responsible for an enormous increase in terrorism?

No wonder Bin Laden was never caught. He's probably still on Ws payroll.

sometimes i wonder if war supporters, here and everywhere, are even sure what reason they support this calamity for this month... their rationale seems to change every four months anyway, as their previous one goes swirling down the toilet...

(in the dumbest Boy King voice possible: )
Iraq paid for 9/11... no wait... Iraq has weapons of mass destruction... no wait... Iraq has unmanned drones.... no wait... Saddam was a BAD MAN! the ends justify the means!!... errr, nope.... wait... thu hate our freedums!!!... no, that's not it... we can't leave now, they'll keep killing eachother... oh, they are anyway?.... Iran will take over if we leave!!!... ....don't talk about Iraq, focus on the global war on terrer!!...

"I'm a war president... I make decisions of policy with war on muh mind."

That's over the top. Weakens your argument.

Actually, maybe you have a better explanation as to why his whole family was escorted out of the country immediately after 9-11 without question; many in the FBI are still perplexed why those orders would come down.
