Yup, some women had the equal right to be raped. Uday and Qusay split them up 50/50, you know, with equality in mind.
Arab states are 30(0)-40(0) years behind us? Hmmm...I think you forgot a zero.
Reformist won 37 of the 50 seats in Kuwait. BTW, in Kuwait, women now make up 57% of the voting public. I think this, and the other points put forth in the article, clearly show how progress post Clinton is being made. Again, this isn't to be taken as a slash at Clinton, it is merely being mentioned to show that progress is not pertinent to a Dem presidency as you like to always imply.
Actually, you missed my point completely, but I'll only state in simply. The war in Iraq has set Iraq back by a generation and empowered fundamentalists. That cannot be good for women, and the best hope for them is that the new constitution actually stays in force. My impression of the Middle East is that in general, the fundamentalists have grown in power over the last 6 years, not lost power. I gather you think otherwise.
Also, a lot of progress was made in the Middle East through both Democratic and Republican administrations, but Bush II has definitely done harm. He quit the policy of engagement that Carter, Reagan, Bush I, and Clinton followed when he took office, then there was 9/11, and then Bush II attacked Iraq. Bush II did nothing about the Middle East until it was too late, and then he did the wrong thing.

So Saddam, Usay & Qusay represent a generation of progress to you???????????

We just have to try to evaluate them the best we can."

Actually, I've read that women in the Baathist Party held relatively equal rights in Iraq. The problem with Iraq, of course, was that if you weren't a member of the Baathist Party, you were a victim of a brutal regime. That said, as awful as Saddam was, the world (and possibly the Iraqis) was safer with him than with anarchy.
I said in my last post that the Muslim world is much worse than the Christian/Jewish world in that regard, but I was taking issue with you saying that in those religions men and women are treated equally, as opposed to just more equally. We're 90% there, not 100.
I dare you to go home and tell you wife that she only has 90% of the right's that you do. I DARE you. No way I will. First I do not agree and even if I did,,, I like my life the way it is, thank you.
PS: My wife says your full of it also. I did ask under the guise that it was your thought not mine.

And are you a deeply religious couple in one of the religions we were talking about? In secular America women have all the same legal rights as men. In the religious Judeo-Christian world, women can't be rabbies or priests, participate in minyan, administer last rites, and so on. Don't confuse America with a theocracy of any kind, the reason women have rights is because we're not religious, not because we're of a certain religion.
