Ron Paul the long time congressman from Texas, has started to explore the possibility of running for President.. this time as a Republican.. unfortunately he does not have the star appeal of many of the candidates, but hope he give them a good run for their money as it is difficult to disagree with what he believes in:

HOUSTON – Ron Paul, the iconoclastic nine-term congressman from southeast Texas, took the first step Thursday toward launching a second presidential bid in 2008, this time as a Republican.
Paul filed incorporation papers in Texas on Thursday to create a presidential exploratory committee that allows him and his supporters to collect money on behalf of his bid. This will be Paul's second try for the White House; he was the Libertarian nominee for president in 1988.
Kent Snyder, the chairman of Paul's exploratory committee and a former staffer on Paul's Libertarian campaign, said the congressman knows he's a long shot.
"There's no question that it's an uphill battle, and that Dr. Paul is an underdog," Snyder said. "But we think it's well worth doing and we'll let the voters decide."
Paul, of Lake Jackson, acknowledges that the national GOP has never fully embraced him despite his nine terms in office under its banner. He gets little money from the GOP's large traditional donors, but benefits from individual conservative and Libertarian donors outside Texas. He bills himself as "The Taxpayers' Best Friend," and is routinely ranked either first or second in the House of Representatives by the National Taxpayers Union, a national group advocating low taxes and limited government.

Re: Ron Paul Liberatarian.. files as a Republican..
How old is he?
It's sad that a candidate has to join Coke or Pepsi to have any kind of shot in politics, or to be taken seriously (feels wierd to say that being a dem or repub means being taken seriously). Of course, this is exactly why party politics are so stupid to me. Ron PAul is adored by Libertarians everywhere. Does his becoming a Repub mean he can't be supported now? Do Dems all disagree with him automatically? Do repubs now agree with his every position? Party politics are dumb, but unfortunately, with Coke or Pepsi as it stands, not much is going to change.

Dems can't deal with his stance on taxes and the size of government (small and smaller) and Rebubs can't deal with his anti- Iraq and drug wars. The repubs also have a problem with his stance on taxes and the size of government as they too, have become spending pigs. Reducing the role of government will also piss-off the repubs as they will have a smaller military on a much shorter leash.
He should not become a republican any more than a democrat, but I would think that in the balance, he would be a dem more than a repub. ...I don't get this. Does he think Republicans are more Libertarian than Democrats? Why?

He's from Texas. Isn't Texas predominantly Repub? Could that have anything to do with it? Maybe he feels his fiscal sanity, low taxes ideology is more in tune with traditional Repubs. See, I think the parties are so stupid, or have become so confused, that nobody knows what either stands for anymore.

Well while I don't agree with Ron on everything he is a consistent Libertarian. Perhaps he feels (felt?) that the socialist programs promoted (mostly) by dems were a greater problem than the foreign policies of pubbies?

Most Dems I know abhor big government and the accompanying bureaucracy, so one statement does not fit all.

EVERYBODY says they abhor big government! (except Patters)
I think most take it for granted, though. No one really cares anymore enough to make a difference by voting in Paul. Maybe I'm wrong...I hope so.

That's probably it, but he becomes wildly inconsistent by piggy-backing on the elephant. It signals to many that there is no hope for a third party, and that spells trouble for us and helps the Republicrat one-party system.

Problem is that the Libertarians can't get elected to statewide posts and they fracture on some issues like Abortion.
