Everyone always says they support immigration if it's done legally.
Well, here's what happens when immigrants come here legally, follow all the rules, and apply for citizenship. Don't we owe these people better?
Quote:
SAN FRANCISCO - Civil rights groups filed a class-action lawsuit today against the federal government for its practice of indefinitely delaying citizenship applications in violation of the Constitution and federal statutes and regulations.
“There is no point in calling our legal process a path to citizenship, if the government puts up a roadblock to keep you from reaching the goal,” said Cecillia D.Wang, senior staff attorney with the ACLU Immigrants’ Rights Project. “We are taking legal action today to reaffirm the promises made to so many patient, hardworking immigrants who want to become U.S. citizens and fully participate in our democracy.”
The first of its kind in Northern California, the lawsuit seeks to enforce federal laws that expect the government to decide a citizenship application within 120 days of the naturalization test. Many of the named plaintiffs have been waiting for several years, a clear violation of the law.
The plaintiffs, long-time legal permanent residents of Northern California, have met all the legal requirements for citizenship, including passing their immigration interview and clearing criminal record checks, but have not been granted citizenship due to a so-called “FBI name check,” a process that has taken years to complete.
If the government is free to ignore the law, how can it ask others to follow it?

The government has been ignoring the laws against illegal immigration for decades. How come you don't complain about that too?

"The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of doubt, what is laid before him." Leo Tolstoy, 1897

That's your fight to fight, not mine. If the government doesn't follow its own laws, it can't reasonable expect people to follow all the law. Lead by example...
It's been going on for years I sure do wish Wonderful Hillary, Our Bill and all their gang had got the ball rolling on this situation, maybe Aunt Nancy & Weasel Reid can start working on it, Bush is busy keeping Nukes out of our Malls.

Yeah, I think I saw Bush outside my local mall with a hand-held nuke detector. He's much too busy to make sure the government follows its own laws. 120 days means 120 days, not 2 years.
Do you have a link to the story? I'm asking this because I think there's more to the story than what you've posted. I believe the immigrants being delayed due to the "FBI name check" are Muslim and the scrutiny is part of a terror watchlist effort. I'm not saying such a procedure is right or wrong, but the blurb you quoted makes no mention of this. I saw such a story on the news the other night and wonder if this article relates to that story.
It's been going on for NOUN I sure do VERBPROPER NAME, PROPER NAME and all their NOUN had got the NOUN rolling on this NOUN, maybe PROPER NAMES can VERB on it, PROPER NAME is ADJECTIVE keeping NOUNPREPOSITION our NOUN.

The story is an ACLU press release, so I can give you the link (http://aclu.org/immigrants/gen/28284prs20070208.html) but remember that the ACLU is the plaintiffs' counsel here, so it may still not be the whole story.
What I do know is that the waiting list for an N-400 application (application for citizenship) is 18 months. That's just to get the application, and you can't begin the process until you're eligible for citizenship (have lived here 5 years in most cases, less if married to a citizen). This isn't just for people from Muslim countries (the only reason I even know about the application delay is we have friends from Ukraine who immigrated in 2001)

Yup, same story. CAIR is working with the ACLU on the case.
Aw *****, I have to repeat this every once in awhile, you probably wer'nt here when I explained my writing ability shortly after having a few threads closed and almost being banned for racism.
you see I never got out of grammar school, I spent six years in the eighth grade, I got married shortly after the last time I got kept back and quit before they could keep me back again.
I just printed out your post and will study it.
