" ' they told us they would bring democracy... they promised life would be better than it was under Saddam'.... he said... 'but they broght us nothing but death and killing... they brought mass destruction to Baghdad.' "
As much as I am against the war, this piece is completely non-neutral and against the spirit of good journalism.. I agree it should not be on the air, primarily do not know geographically where it is.. should give it a context and should have some US boots on the ground comments.

Why should news be "neutral"? THere are times when one side's story can be the truth. I find comments by warring sides to be irrellevant. Of course you can get opposite comments from either side and edit them together for equal time purposes, but that might not tell the real story. The real story has to be accumulated through time and may take months to get a hold of, but you don't have to have each individual report be "fair and balanced". That's no more useful than Al Jezeera or FOX.

Translation: There's nothing wrong with biased news coverage - as long as it's biased toward the liberal point of view.

When did I say anything about liberal or conservative? Do you wake up in the morning thinking about "liberal vs. conservative"? Does that have to bleed into every single subject? My point goes for all points of view. Some stories are balanced, like a story about economics, or science, where mathematics are indisputable. When you get into the arena of politics, religion, and sports, the only balance available is the one you provide for yourself by comparing the facts of different sources like The Economist vs. NPR - not one exclusively. Political news is just that, and you can't rely on one source like you can for, say, information about the distance of a comet from Earth. I'm sure that the story in this thread has a number of points of views from as many news sources.
There is confusion about what objective journalism is. It's not presenting both sides of every story as if they were equally valid. Objective journalism is looking at a story with an open mind, researching the facts, and then presenting them - no matter what they are.

Perhaps neutral is a poor choice of words, but as I said the video has no context, does this stuff happen in all of Bagdad's neighbourhoods? Is this the exception or the rule?? It also has no geographical context? That is all I am saying, is it a stand alone story.. where does it fit in the big picture?? I need more info, not just information that tends to portray one side without a context.

EXACTLY! Or to a Right wing view point if that's your persuasion.

"The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of doubt, what is laid before him." Leo Tolstoy, 1897

Very true. Also, who are these people being interviewed? For all we know, they could be Sunni aligned insurgents, or maybe Shi'ite followers of Al-Sadr. The news being biased is awful. Two sides should always be presented. That clip is completely biased toward one view point. USA = bad. An unbiased report would at least present some semblence of the alternative view. Even having a GI on there to explain what is going on or something. But alas, nothing.
