Default Patriots thread

Within the NFL, the Patriots are a most unusual team. It's not about the individual, it's about the team. Players like Brady and Bruschi are willing sacrifice financially to help the team. Virtually every player, even our superstars like Seymour, Dillon, and Harrison are willing to sacrifice personal glory to help the team win. I don't think there's an exception on the team. Players like Faulk and Brown certainly epitomize the team spirit. Obviously, even the lowest paid Pat earns more than the vast majority of us, but in terms working together, of contributing to whole, of making personal sacrifice, of surrendering individual glory, the team represents an ideal. While it's obvious that socialism doesn't work in the economic sense, it seems to work well in terms of building a football team. BB treats every player equally and always focuses on the good of the whole, rather than the good of the individual. Maybe I'm stretching things a bit, but I thought at this time of year the Political Forum should have at least one Patriots thread!

I happen to agree with what you say about the Pats. They've set the bar as far as members of a team subsuming themselves for the good of the whole. That is the reason they are prospering, imho.

As for the economic system of the general public I also happen to believe that a more "public-oriented" way is long over-due. Individual effort and personal ownership are clearly the way life operates, but the way we see ourselves as *part of the whole family of humankind* is what needs to be developed more in America and Europe.

In this sense we can learn something from the people of the far east. Nobody can say that individual ownership does not exist in places like Japan and South Korea, for example; and yet both countries have a "social ethic" of how everybody fits into the whole national fabric that is ahead of the U.S. and the West in general. I believe it has to do with the sense of family, reverence of ancestors, and identity with a certain line that goes back hundreds and even thousands of years. A very healthy perspective.

I've heard this argument before and it's a bunch of bull. Sure they spread the money around but that's because there's a salary cap. One thing's for sure, Belichick isn't going to keep some slacker around just because he feels bad for them. Produce or you're gone. I don't think he would be a big fan of supporting people who don't try to support themselves.

Hate to say, but I think the Pats might be in trouble Sunday.

WHAT?
WHAT?
You're a TROLL?!
If you like money, put it on the Pats to cover and tease to win outright.
Haven't you been watching, RW?

I have. I told you I'm an objective person. If this game were in Foxboro, I'd feel differently. Indy will have the support of their very loud fans to pick them up if they suck early on. Plus, I don't see how our secondary of Sanders, Hawkins, Samuel, and Hobbs stops thier passing attack in the Dome. I'm not saying we can't win, we certainly can. If we run the ball, consume some clock, and score touchdowns as opposed to FG's, then we should be ok. I just think the game is a tough match up for us.

BTW, Maroney is critical to this game.

Phil Simms has said that if he knew how big his team's Superbowl win was going to be for his career WAYYYYY after he was done playing, he may have well choked. He could easily pull down high 6 figures for decades at CBS. He's got talent and speaks well on the air, but his chance to show that came from his playing resume, a resume that might have been much shorter and less impressive if he chased every dollar. There's a million other ways besides being a TV personality to make money if you're a 'beloved figure.' John Madden went to work for a construction company when he stopped coaching the Raiders. He drank coffee all morning and went to city hall and pulled permits all afternoon. He chose to leave and get a real job; but because he was so loved in the Cali area he could have easily continued to do nothing and be an 'executive' for that company. That wasn't a gift job either. Sure there was no real work involved; but that company got a lot of bang for its buck by having him show up with the permit apps. Who in city hall would tell THE coach he can't have his easement? Its not socialist to sacrifice making big money today to eventually make bigger money later. It could very well be thought of as a shrewd business decision.

Being objective is for Colts fans!
It will be a tough game, though - you're right. Pats will show new Defenses that we would only know if we guessed right. This is not the regular season. For some reason, and I know why, they play better when it's crunch time (except against the Broncos ). I think it's a New England thing and I know it sounds corny, but I think we're different than the rest of the country and it shows in our football team for some reason. They feed off of the four B'sand it's very different during the playoffs. Toughness, resilience, calm, and confidence. They have to be flying high after last week.

I'd like to see the running game come alive, too, but I have a feeling they'll start out with 3-wide to stretch out the Dolts Defense and keep Bob honest - he kills the short pass and runs off tackle.

getting back to the subject at hand...

I just found out my friend's sister (first year teacher) has to buy her own art supplies for her classroom. The schools out here decided a good thing to cut is art and music. My friends and I are collecting during the Pats game this weekend for her class. But there are hundreds of thousands of schools that these cuts affect in my state.

This is a lot like having practice squad players play with no helmets and cleets. The Patriots system WORKS....top to bottom as a nation we need to be the best. We never know when a backup will need to step in, so we should make sure they ar eready to go from the beginning. We are super top heavy on wealth and the distribution of it in the united states. The next generation will suffer because of the decisions made now.

I agree about the different defenses. The Pats will show him a lot of new looks. My feeling is, you can muster up all the new looks you want, but you have to have the talent to cover. I'm not sure we can cover those receivers. Hope I'm wrong.
