The news was always biased in the pre internet days. the internet exposed the mainstream media as news molders and makers. They could have gone up a notch due to their on the scene ability to get at the heart of the stories. Instead they pass them up to show us California forest fires, peoples cars going off the road due to ice and all the other crap I can find for myself if so intuned.
Show the people the real news and they may learn something...
Sensationalism and creating stories leads to those dumb Americans you speak of.
That's what I'm talking about: the selection of *what* to put out in print, at 6:00, on over the airwaves.
There can be no doubt by now that commercial news is made to sell: whatever will bring in the greatest number of "average dumb Americans" to lap it up. Sell more newspapers, raise your ABC rating, increase your Nielsons, get more listeners, etc -- and you get MORE MONEY through all the advertisers who are willing to play to the crowd.
As long as the ethic of news production is something like "Never underestimate the gullibility of the American people" there will be vermin who exploit that tendency of Americans to trust and believe that their own best interests are being put first by the big media companies. Ha, fool me once shame on you; fool me twice shame on me.
