Default Illegal Immigrant Demands $25,000 "First Baby" Prize

Don't these criminals have any shame...? I don't know what worse... the moxie someone has to be an illegal immigrant and demand a $25,000 prize for her baby, or the way the media plays it all up as a "feel good" story when the criminal gets her way.

I wonder if the couple from El Salvador (parens of baby #3) are illegal too.

Happy ending:

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/01/06/fir....ap/index.html

After all, as pointed out in the article, the baby was born an American citizen and the prize goes to the child, not the parents. I think Toys R Us handled this wisely. Also, is it clear that the mother was an illegal alien or was she simply a tourist or some other kind of legal visitor?

Toys R Us lucked out. Nobody pays any attention to that contest if some regular kid wins. Now that there's controversy people pay attention and they seem like heroes.

Absolutely ridiculous. Total joke. I'll never shop there again.

Although promotional materials called for "all expectant New Year's mothers" to apply, Toys "R" Us spokeswoman Kathleen Waugh said eligibility rules required babies' mothers to be legal residents. Many sweepstakes have such requirements, Waugh said.

Waugh said the prize instead was awarded to the runner-up -- Jayden Swain, born 19 seconds after midnight at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Ga. -- after the contest administrator was told that Yuki's mother "was not a legal resident of the United States."

The third baby in the running was born in Bay Shore, N.Y., to a couple from El Salvador.

Some Chinese-American advocates said the company's decision smacked of second-class citizenship.

"People are just pretty much outraged," said John Wang, president of the New York-based Asian American Business Development Center.

Albert Wang, an attorney, who launched the e-mail campaign said "She was deprived of $25,000 intended to be used for her college education because of who her parents are," he said.

So let's get this straight. The rules CLEARLY statethat the mom has to be a LEGAL resident, she wasn't, so she complained, and got the prize anyway? WTF? Bend over everyone!

Gotta love the BS "deprived of her college education" crap. What a fuggin joke. That money's going to Foxwoods, a car, or anything but her college. She's a fricken minority, she's going to get a free education anyway!
