Looking at the photos of the hanging on CNN.com, I can't help thinking how barbaric execution by hanging is. I also think it's bizarre it is in a country so torn by violence to turn Saddam inot a martyr. From the few polls I've seen, Saddam had the support of about 20% of the Iraqis, which is probably as sizeable as any other faction.

Erm, NEM has said that he is in favour of bringing your troops home, where they are less likely to get killed. He has said this repeatedly. The people killing American troops are terrorists and "insurgents". How does opposing American troops in Iraq make him a troop KILLER?
For the record, my own views are more likely to get them killed as I am not in favour of immediate troop withdrawal.

Real World

I felt the same Patters. I refuse to look at footage or pictures of it. As much as I feel the man deserved his punishment, I still don't find joy in it. Were I to watch it with excitement, I'd feel no better than the savage primitives who watched the Nick Berg video in much the same way. Obviously, Iraq is not the US. What is barbaric here may not be considered barbaric there. However, were it up to me, an injection of some kind would have been better served.

Real World

The position stems from the fact that the radicals have made public their desire to use the MSM, and public sentiment against the US cause. There is validity to this position. By mutilating and kill ing US soldiers, the radicals hope that people like NEM become more abundant. The enemy knows it cannot defeat us on the battlefield, so they hope to defeat us at home. The more NEMS there are screaming, the more momentum the enemy builds. Say what you will about what such a position means, but there certainly is some sense in the arguement.
