Default Oops..MJF: "I never read the Stem Cell Bill"

Now isn't this interesting. This guy deserves to be criticized.

Stephanopoulos: In the ad now running in Missouri, Jim Caviezel speaks in Aramaic. It means, "You betray me with a kiss." And his position, his point, is that actually even though down in Missouri they say the initiative is against cloning, it's actually going to allow human cloning.

Fox: Well, I don't think that's true. You know, I campaigned for Claire McCaskill. And so I have to qualify it by saying I'm not qualified to speak on the page-to-page content of the initiative. Although, I am quite sure that I'll agree with it in spirit, I don't know, I— On full disclosure, I haven't read it, and that's why I didn't put myself up for it distinctly.

But I've made this point before, and I really am sincere in it, that anybody who's prayed on this, and thought about it, and really considered it and can't get their mind around or their heart around the idea of embryonic stem cell research, I'd go to war for your right to believe that. And you're right to feel that. I respect it. I truly do.

My point is, and our point as a community, is we have a very good and supportable conclusion that a vast majority of people in this country are in favor of science playing a leading role in making changes in the future and believe in embryonic stem cell research.

So we're just saying, know that we have prayed on it, too, and we have thought about it, and we are good people, and we are family people, and we are people that take this very seriously, and we're as concerned as you are.

And we've decided that we would like to take this step and to do it with caution and to do it with oversight and to do it with the strictest adherence to ethics and all of the principles this country stands for.

But, allow us to do that without infusing the conversation with inflammatory rhetoric and name-calling and fear-mongering. It doesn't help.

Stephanopoulos: Do you think there's any way to finally find common ground with people who do believe in the end that this is tampering with tiny lives?

Fox: Well, again, the point has been made that these lives are going to be thrown away, anyway. They are marked for destruction — thousands of frozen embryos that are a byproduct of in vitro fertilization. We have routinely, before this conversation started on stem-cell research, we have for years thrown them away.

And that's the other thing, you know, this idea of snowflake babies: We're in favor of that. The truth of the matter is that it is only going to account for a tiny fraction—

One of the objections is that it allows cloning for medical research purposes. Ghoulish.

Mengele must be in hell *****ing that he was just ahead of his time.

More on stem cell therapy and what works.

http://www.wcfcourier.com/articles/2...15005ab87b.prt

Quotes instead of paragraphs, I urge you to read the entire human interest article:

Quote:
...Dr. Lima's procedure, called olfactory mucosa transplantation, differs dramatically from what generates the most heat in the debate, embryonic stem cell research. Lima's process uses adult stem cells taken from the patients themselves.(snip)

...I had a senator up there screaming at me," she says(snip)...."I was foolish enough to stand in front of the senators and say using a person's own stem cells is safer," she says.

Peduzzi-Nelson testified "the most profitable, not the best, treatment for people is being promoted. The main reason for the current emphasis on human embryonic stem cells and cloning is money."

She added profit explains why adult stem cell research is ignored.

"It is a superior business plan to have a mass-produced product such as embryonic-fetal-cloned stem cells that can be sold nationwide and have patentable intellectual property," she said in 2004. " (snip)... Adult stem cell therapies are much better for people with diseases or injuries but generate an inferior business plan."

At the hearing, Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., insisted on knowing if Peduzzi-Nelson belonged to any pro-life organizations and threatened the doctor with contempt if she failed to answer. Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., added "millions of Americans" suffering "a host of devastating diseases" deserve better.(snip)

...Beyond ethical issues, both physicians say embryonic stem cells present problems.

"Nature didn't make embryonic stem cell to repair organs. That's what adult stem cells are for," Lima says. "Embryonic stem cells will be rejected or go out of control because they were made to proliferate."

His conclusion: "In my opinion, they are not going to work, and in fact, a lot of people are going to suffer."

Dude, if you had a clue about molecular biology you would know that cloning is done every day in labs all over the world. Of course you don't understand what the term means, so your reference to Mengele is sickeningly ignorant.

BTW...I use cloning, so don't tell me I don't know what Im talking about. Its simply the masses of uneducated americans (Thanks Reagan!) that get all giddy when the word "cloning" is mentioned because they've been taught erroneously by jesus freaks and their blind followers that it is akin to playing God.

Well, my suggestion is to get a basic course in Biology 101 under your belt before you start opining on it and making yourself out to be a fool again.

As we learned after the Homeland Security Debacle congress does not read the bills they vote on either, or at least they claim they didn't CNN or Fox can give the highlights on the way to and from the airport.

RW...its really sad that you would align yourself with the extreme Rush Limbaugh wing of your party to score points in opposition of advancing stem cell research.

I must have had you all wrong. I thought you were more moderate than that. You are referring to the bill that was Bushs sole veto that Congress overwhelmingly approved, correct??

Why should Fox have to read something like that (like any of us would) instead of a canned version of what the bill entailed?? Especially since it had majority support in Congress???

Jim Talent's is a minority opinion on this issue. Thats why he should go. To say that Fox deserves criticism for being on the side of majority opinion tells me that you don't care very much for the basic tenet of this democratic republic of ours.

Interesting you should post this.

Well DUDE, I probably have more scientific training in my background tha you do.

You are aware that some so caled 'ethicist are debating people being cloned for the purpose of harvesting body parts for original.
How do you feel about that scinece dude?

If thats true, God help us. Certainly you would therefore know that we clone stuff everyday. Its a new thing you may not have heard of yet called genetic engineering.

To many there is a moral difference between genetically manipluating corn and cloning human beings for scientific expermentation. Apparently the difference elude Leftist today as it eluded National Socialist 70 years ago.
