As usual,Real World has this nailed.

France is neither Liberal nor Conservative, they're friggin' "Xenophobes" of the highest order.

It's not about anti-this or anti-that with the French,it's about their perceived place in history.Richelieu,DeGaulle,
the "Sun King",the Dreyfuss affair,
the Vichy collaboration. All for the grandious vision of "La Belle Francais".

They invite their petite muslim brothers to bask in their aura and then
are "shocked!,shocked!....to find gambling going on in this establishment!".

Pathetique!..... 'plus ca change, plus ca la meme chose',you arrogant a..holes.

And we're not xenophobes? France is conservative in the way we are. France first. Screw everyone else.

Oh, please, the aristocracy was defeated ages ago. The French have no special obsession about their history, except maybe in terms of the arts. The French have a great disdain for politics, as great as ours.

Do you know anything about French history? Their prejudice has caused them the same kinds of problems that our prejduce has caused us, and their conservative government, like our conservative government, doesn't address the root causes. Their problems are derived from poverty and prejudice -- sort of like New Orleans.

I was going to reply, but debating people like you and NEM is like swatting
flies,....an exercise in futility.
There used to be literate,intellectual,
liberals and democrats to debate,but,
alas,they're all gone,now.
We're saddled with leftist loons' and
ranting "agent provacateurs".

.......more's the pity

There's apparently little left in your arsenal, but standard right wing rhetoric. Now go eat your freedom fries.

Read Sixty Million Frenchmen Can't be Wrong, by Jean Benoit-Nadeau and Julie Barrow. It hardly creates a glowing image of France, but you'll see that it's a country filled with right-wing elements, libertarian elements, and socialist elements. In many ways, it's a very conservative society, with a stronger anti-immigration sentiment than here, fewer unionized workers at factories, a small business class that's more powerful than here, and so on. Just because the French don't back American policies doesn't make them liberal. There are many, many parallels between France and the United States.
