I thought we are living in America.

I thought it is the media which is monitoring the government, not the other way around.

Once was a time when the Pentagon could give a sh-t about what the press says. They now join the elite group that includes all politicians who keep their finger in the wind and respond accordingly. More power is given to the press.

Does anyone think they'd ever have the balls to put pressure on a news organization for their reporting "tone"?

An unfortunate legacy of George Bush is the politicization of non-paritisan government institutions like the FBI, CIA, HUD, and Pentagon.

The Pentagon is now acting like a part of the Republican propaganda machine, just like Fox News and Newsmax.

If you get a chance watch V for Vendetta, very interesting film and very interesting parallels to this administration....
