Hundreds of thousands of Shiites chanting "Death to Israel" and "Death to America" marched through the streets of Baghdad's biggest Shiite district Friday in a massive show of support for Hezbollah in its battle against Israel.
No violence was reported during the rally in Sadr City. But at least 35 people were killed elsewhere in the country, most of them in a car bombings and gun battle in northern Iraq.
The demonstration was the biggest in the Middle East in support of Hezbollah since Israel launched its attacks against the guerrillas in Lebanon on July 12. The protest was organized by radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, whose political movement built around the Mahdi Army militia has been modeled after Hezbollah.
Al-Sadr summoned followers from throughout the Shiite heartland of southern Iraq to converge on Baghdad for the rally but he himself did not attend.

Nope, Alfred E. Neuman got us into this mess and it's on him to clean it up (despite his statement a few weeks back that the exit strategy will be up to his sucessor).
Harry, nice try at deflecting this. You and your folks won't be able to outrun the stink, however. This is on the President and the party in control of both houses of Congress the past 6 years - - before, during and after our invasion of Iraq.
No matter how badly the Bush cabal screw our country up, all you can do is pathetically chant "Carter-Dukakis-Jackson" - you don't even come close to making sense.

Clearly what Bush has tried hasn't worked - but I feel safe in saying that other things wouldn't work either. The middle east is like a house totally inundated with fleas. There is simply nothing you can do.

My plan would've brought us to the very same place we are today......only $399 billion cheaper. And our country would be 2,600 young lives richer.

And your plan may have been better. OTOH, 10 years from now maybe all these uprisings will cause the middle east citizenry to rise up against their governments. Believe me, I am not saying I think things will improve nor am I saying that I would want this course of action if I knew then what I know now. But at least ruffling the feathers causes a possibility of improvement - kind of like micro fracture surgery.
Regarding the cost, while I know it's cost a lot, do they include all the military's fixed costs that would be paid anyway, like military salaries ? I bet they do and that makes the $400B, or whatever it is, largely misleading.

Change the subject, bring up the Kennedy's, Carter or Jesse Jackson...bottom line is that we have not won the hearts and souls of the Iraqi people as promised by our fearless leader. $399 billion later and about 2500+ dead soldiers later, it is a big mess.
BTW our leader and his party have done a remarkable job on health care and social security, they have done nothing except say they want to do something.

It's all about contracting and money for the chimp's friends.
If I had a budget of $50 billion, and my contract said I had to build a dam and hydro-power station, but instead, I built a casino, airport, space station, and a much smaller dam without a power station, that created a lake for all my friends and their kids to play in, and billed you $400 billion, would that be OK? After all, I built a dam. We can quibble about the power station, if you like, but you'll end up getting someone else to build it for you.
It's called fraud. The use of our military has been misplaced when they could have been protecting our country, whether there was an imminent threat down the road or not. Every penny of normal operation cost of the military that was spent in Iraq has been wasted.
Iraq now resembles Iran, and I'm not saying that's a bad thing for the Iraqis or us. It's the way they are, and they express themselves accordingly. THEY WANT TO BE LEFT ALONE! They don't want people who are different from them telling them what to do. Is there anything wrong with that? Such a huge protest is refreshing to me and probably the Iraqis. They've probably been waiting to do this for a very long time. They are free to express themselves, and they want to tell us and Israel that they want us to get the f--k out of their business. Again, Israel is a cat in a dogpound and one has to wonder why they would want to stay there and live under these conditions.
