The answer is simple. We live in a world composed entirely of dogpounds.

I agree with you partially. There are many "dogpounds". But I think there are many more relatively peaceful regions in the world that would make the ME look like the Garden of Eden by comparison.
The entire Western Hemisphere is peaceful except for very few exceptions. There have been some local revolutionary episodes, but very little international conflicts (US-Grenada, US - Nicaragua, US - Panama, US - Cuba, England - Argentina) but most of these conflicts have been very brief.
Since WWII, Northern and Western Europe have been silent. Only the Balkans were in conflict since then.
Asia has been very calm with the exception of Indi-China. Africa is a mess, but the majority of African military violence is contained to civil wars and ethnic conflicts within single nations.
Now that I think of it, you could mark out a continuous path from Viet Nam, across the Indian sub-continent, through Persia to the Mediterranean and see where the most international violence has occurred since the War. I know why Israel is located where it is. I only wonder why they decided to stay there or even choose that place knowing they would be in eternal conflict?
Anywhere else in the world would have been preferrable for a peaceful and prosperous existence.
