A Lebanese neighbor of mine, a graduate student, just got back from Lebanon yesterday. In American politics, she's a liberal. She's a Christian, which puts her more in the Lebanese camp that is sympathetic to Israel. She said that the people she spoke with blame Hezbelloh, not Israel, but if Israel continues killing civilians that will soon change. She said everyone knows the Lebanese government is very weak, and most people are hoping for a ceasefire and UN peacekeeping troops like Blair has proposed. She would like to see the military wing of Hezbelloh out of her country.

I just don't see the point in sending in a peacekeeping force given that there will never be peace. The time has come to let them fight it out and move on. They both want the same piece of land and won't share it. If the Israelis just wanted to live in peace, we should move them all to, say, Idaho - but they want that land and so do the Palestinians. So I say - let the stronger man win and move on.
