One thing that hasn't been said here: I think the Dixie Chicks knew quite well who their fan base was, which makes their statements courageous. They knew there would be retaliation.

QuiGon, you're right--keeping Dixie Chicks' music off the air was not censorship in the legal sense of the word. But the word means different things to different people.

At any rate, I do not think there was anything admirable about Clear Channel curtailing Dixie Chick music broadcasts, whatever word you use to describe it. I'm watching--and enjoying--a Charlton Heston movie right now, and I never liked his politics. Same goes for Bruce Willis and Mel Gibson. I can enjoy their films without feeling like a traitor to my political views. And Jane Fonda was very good in Klute, Coming Home and they Kill Horses Don't They? Right?

I am not so sure... they probably figured that no one would make a big deal or even care back in the U.S. over an off-hand remark made in London.

A very well written post And, FWIW, I have learned to deaden my senses against watching and enjoying Hollywood fare involving the leftist of the left. If I only watched movies by conservatives, I'd get to see a neverending cycle of 10 Commandments and Braveheart. Yeah, that would get old.
