Since returning from his second and final tour of duty in Iraq, Greg Kurbatoff is enjoying life's simple pleasures.

At least he doesn't have to worry about car bombs anymore.

"It's nice to sit at a red light without having to look around and worry about a car blowing up," said Kurbatoff, who was based in Ramadi as an infantry medic attached to the Bravo Company of Pennsylvania. "It's nice to feel safe."

While he's enjoying the unusual idiosyncrasies of freedom, Kurbatoff remains a big supporter of the war in Iraq. The rest of the country has soured with the war's taking so long. But Kurbatoff feels the troops need to stay as long as it takes to finish the job.

"I think we made a big mistake in Desert Storm when we left," Kurbatoff said. "Because of political pressure from home, we left the people to wallow, and if we left now, the people of Iraq would suffer. We provide a balance to the chaos. For now, it isn't a nation that could support itself."

"I think we made a big mistake in Desert Storm when we left," Kurbatoff said. "Because of political pressure from home, we left the people to wallow, and if we left now, the people of Iraq would suffer. We provide a balance to the chaos. For now, it isn't a nation that could support itself."

"When we first went in, everyone was hell-bent," Kurbatoff said. "After 9/11, everyone was hell-bent with American pride. There was an American flag on every car. Try to find one now. Where did it go? It's the same war.

"People have changed their positions," he added. "Ultimately, they support the soldiers, but I don't think their patriotism isn't as high anymore. I think patriotism is fleeting."

Kurbatoff reminds everyone that the U.S. brought the war to Iraq and we haven't been attacked here. He says we are doing well over there and the world is a better place without Saddam Hussein and his sons

"I signed the same paperwork as Cindy Sheehan's son did," Greg Kurbatoff said. "He knew what he was doing. She can't accept it . She has disrespected him and everything he gave as a soldier."

He added, "She's one of those people that I think is a waste of oxygen

One person's opinion, whom I respect, regarding Desert Storm I do not understand the public opinion thing. I was surprised during that conflict we did not follow the troops to Bagdad and take out Saddam then, it would have been so much easier and saved a lot of grief at this time.

I thought there is a fallacy in the argument.

The issue is what paperrwork did Mr. Kurbatoff and Mr. Sheehan sign?

I don't believe there is anything in their "paperwork" that justify their invading another country without provocation and instigation a war that is based on lies, deceptions, and cherry-picked intelligence data.

I'm sure there are terrorists who feel the same way about Al Qaeda's actions as Greg K. feels about America's. It takes two to tango.

I believe the soldier was refering to their enlistment papers when they volunteered for the military.

Thanks Patters...for validating that there truly is a war between America and Al-Queda. All the lefty sites keep saying it's just Iraqi's protecting their country.

In other news, Dog Bites Man. Film at 11.

I'm not discounting the guy, it's just not that special to be able to find a young soldier still gung ho after his return. He's got the right to say what he wants about Cindy Sheehan et al. It's just not that surprising.

It's pretty natural, but not all that significant, for the rank and file guys who return safely to resent civilian "interference" with "winning the war."

That's cool... the soldiers and marines that feel that way each have a single vote, as do other Americans. They each have a voice, probably proportionately more respected than other Americans'. But they aren't the sole drivers of military policy. Even during an unpopular war, members of the military are most likely to support fighting until victory. Occupational hazard.

The dog-bites-man story is that so many returning warriors are realizing this war is not the easily won, welcome-the-liberators, freedom-fest it was billed as.

I respect what all of them did, what all of them put on the line to do it. I respect their pure courage. I know they want to fight this war for me as well as them.

This does not, however, conclusively demonstrate that the war should continue to be fought.

No it doesn't not at all. But it does demonstrate that people who oppose the war should oppose it on their own grounds and not use the soldiers as pawns. The soldiers own opinion of the war is their right...I think it's wrong when the anti-war people put words in their mouths.

You say the same as to your opinion...that was all the post was for.

I played golf with a 1st Lt. in the Marines today. Didn't know the guy. My buddy cancelled out so they asked if this fellow could join our foursome.

It wasn't until about the 7th hole that I asked him what he did. He just got back from a tour in Iraq. He said the morale in his unit is very high. They are proud of the job that they are doing over there. He also said the the Iraqi people, for the most part, are grateful and appreciate what we have done for them.

I give this fine young man's eye witness account more weight than our news media. I also think that if it was the opposite, he would have told me. In fact, I told him that is not the impression we get from news reports and he just smiled.

PS

FBN - my putting has really improved since you gave me that "tip". Thanks.

Back in my golfing days...when I was in a ball busting mood...after a few holes i knew just what to say to mess up my opponent for a few holes or even the day.

I would innocently talk about some person who did not exist and the funky way they swing their club. Of course one part of thsi swing would be soething my opponent always did also.

So, i would then go on to say how i helped the non existant golfer...I then would watch my opponent trying it out... it was fun.
