Most men and women in newspapers and magazines are honest, hard-working people who embrace their professional responsibility to report the news fairly and accurately. A lot of folks in this forum make the mistake of confusing "opinion" (columnists, editorials) with "news." While columnists and editorial writers are obliged to support their opinions with factual evidence, opinion remains apart from the news and by its very nature invites charges of bias. That's as it should be. My suggestion to anyone who really wants to know what's going on in the world is to check out the Associated Press wires online and/or AP stories in your local paper. AP services are used by pretty much every newspaper in the country and are free of political spin. The news, and nothing but the news.

That sounds like hyperbole. Not knowing your involvement in the story, how were you offended and what would you have done differently if the shoe was on the other foot? I reported on a number of cases involving human tragedy of that nature and was always respectful of my sources while still trying to do my job. I'm sure if a murder-suicide occurred in your neighborhood, you'd want to learn as much about it as soon as you could. I never saw reporters acting like "a pack of wild bloodthirsty dogs" except in the movies.
