If hospitals accept federal funds they do not have a choice under the Hill Burton Act...they must treat everyone who comes through the door. The quality of care is different dependent on the type of coverage and the ethics of the attending physician..having spent some time in emergency rooms it is obvious who gets the quickest attention, those with "quality" insurance go much quicker than the Hill Burton Patient..this is the ying and yang of many hospitals in the city, they were built there a long time ago and now just exist there, i.e. university hospital in Boston or Rhode Island Hospital in Prov... it is a complex problem that is not going away, frequently homeless folk come in complaining of a malady and they just can't let them go..one of the resolutions that can help this is to have more clinics readily available for folks and that would lessen the strain on emergency rooms.

This whole Health insurance thing is such a scam. Even if you do have coverage and you have a stay at the hospital, you are still going to be charged with exorbitant bills because of the deductibles and most(well my) insurers will only cover so much and than your on your own.
Last year I had an overnight stay at the local hospital, had a stress test for my heart and lab tests. I had to pay over 1,500 dollars in deductibles and co-payments. It was like I had no insurance at all.
If we were to believe all this "left wing socialist crap" about health care the parking lots of America's Hospitals would be littered with dead body's.
The Illegal Aliens, the Wino's, the Junkies, and "LEGITIMATE POOR PEOPLE ON MEDICARE" get better health care than I do, because I PAY.
If you would like to test this theory, put on some dirty clothes, stagger into your local hospital, tell them you think you are dying, then tell them you have no Identification, tell them you have no permanent home, tell them you have no insurance, tell them you only have $6.35 to your name, then tell them you came to America on an Inner Tube.You will go to the head of the line.
The poor jerk that worked all his life and is paying $2000.00 a month for health insurance will have to wait until the Doctors get through giving the "Inner Tube Man" his checkup.
