Default Maybe we can tax Soul-Glo next?

I have to be honest... I wasn't losing much sleep over the new "tan tax". I just can't muster much sympathy for spoiled 15 year old girls who have to pay 10% more for their tanning machine time.

But now the ugly specter of racism has been raised! After all, who uses tanning salons? Pretty much exclusively white people.

I think we can all imagine the rioting we would see if a white republican President put forth a tax on a product used exclusively by black people.

'Tan tax' discussions include allegations of reverse racism

This tax was complete bs, actually -- didn't it come about after another bs tax, on plastic surgery or something, had a better lobbying effort, so they turned their eyes towards the tanning industry?

When this tax came out, I told my friends it was discriminatory. Who goes tanning? Well, white people. Ask yourself, if 90% of the people who smoked, were black, or hispanic, and there were a 10% tax imposed on ciggarettes for the first time, what would people think? Exactly.

The people I really feel for are the ones with certain skin conditions (colitis for one). I knew of at least two people who regularly use tanning beds to help with their conditions..They go once a week, the tanning stops the skin from opening up. I guess since they are white, Obama doesn't care about there healthcare.......

Unless the people you know are wearing their bowels on the outside I think you've got either the wrong disease or the wrong treatment.

Nope, it causes skin rashes...
Natural Remedies for Ulcerative Colitis

you can also add psoriasis to the list of skin ailments helped by tanning beds.

But that is not real, in fact it is an epic fail comparison..

Nowhere in your link of 9 alternative medicine treatments for colitis does it mention a tanning bed.

If a person has a skin ailment which is weeping it is sometimes helped by untraviolet treatments - most often given under supervision in a dermatologists office or in-home with specific guidelines - and, unlike a tanning bed, it is directed only at the affected area.

National Psoriasis Foundation - Treating psoriasis: light therapy and phototherapy

The only type of proven and/or recommended phototherapy for psoriasis is UVB light - tanning beds provide only UVA light - which is really good for nothing other than causing cancer and making you look good.

UV phototherapy is the simplest and easiest treatment with the best general results for clearing psoriasis. There is also no direct side effects (but be careful of sunburn which can increase the risk of skin cancer.) UVB light is NOT the light found in tanning salons and solariums. That is UVA light. Sitting in a tanning salon for hours will do little or nothing for your psoriasis. What about skin cancer? There is not a single case of documented skin cancer caused by narrow band UVB phototherapy treatment. It is safer than the old style wide band light, and significantly safer than normal sun exposure UVA or PUVA phototherapy. Several studies have been unable to find any link between narrow band UVB treatment and skin cancer. People who are predisposed to skin cancer can have skin cancer on parts of their body that have never been exposed to UV light, such as in the arm pits and soles of the feet.
