Ever watch Jay Leno's "Jay Walking" where Leno goes out and asks passers by simple questions I can't believe just how dumb some people are. Last week Leno asked a passer by what year did the US declared independence the guy said 1869, when Leno asked him why he picked 1869 he said "I don't know it sounded good" And that was one of the tougher questions i've heard Leno ask.

Leno: "In what country is the Panama canal" answer "I don't know ....in Pana"?

Leno: What was the Gettysburgh address"? Passer by "Well i don't know the exact address"

Leno: "What politician was called tricky Dick"? ...passer by..."Bill Clinton"? That answer i can understand.

There are always going to be 'outliers" whose response is way outside the standard deviation, but I'd like to see a scientific poll of that question...

In the video they stated 70% knew the answer. This of course is with them controlling who they ask.

I can see why a UK'er might take pleasure in something that depicts Americans as dumb. I don't fully understand why an American would though. I think it might be related to issues of self-worth though. The dumber and more useless everyone around you is the better you feel about yourself.
